John O'Brien
"He is always pushing the limitations of the medum."
Who is he?
John O'Brien is a ceramic/sculpture artist. He has been working in clay and ceramics for over thirty years, and aims to create something that the world has never seen before. He wishes that clay can be viewed as a fine art again, just as it has been in the past.
What does he do?
John O'Brien creates works of art on a 3D canvas, or as we know it, pottery. His works are primarily focused on the modern, exotic shapes that he creates, but he had also created his own methods for coloring the finished pottery. His clays have a great variety of components, including porcelain and stoneware as well as his own custom blend of porcelain-resembling clay. He has studied extensively in the creation of pottery, and has even built his own kilns and pottery wheels. He also creates his own glazes to get the unique results that he does.
His works:
This peice is an example of just how many different hues of one color that John can invent to put onto his clay. Along with the texture, this piece seems to almost feel like it is glowing.
This piece is an excellent example of O'Brien's ingenuity when it comes to form. This pot practically screams modern-age, and yet it is completely its own in originality.
This piece is a good example of one of the more simpler forms that John sometimes creates to instead focus on the glazes. They have swirled and mixed into each other slightly, creating a very interesting effect that also adds texture.
