Lunch Bunch Sign-Up

During the weeks of September 29-October 3 and October 6-10, your Advisory Class will be able to sign up to attend one of this year's Lunch Bunch with the Counselor sessions. The Lunch Bunch program has been reorganized just a little bit to make better use of our time together. A sign-up sheet for your Advisory students will be placed in your box by October 1. A schedule of Lunch Bunch times and groups will be sent out by Friday, October 17 to all Advisory teachers. If you have any suggestions for Lunch Bunch topics, please let me know.

Small Groups Begin

Small groups are scheduled to begin meeting on Wednesday, October 1. A list of student participants will be emailed to you and/or placed in your boxes by Tuesday, September 30. This semester we have 5 groups that will meet each week for approximately 30 minutes each. I know that instructional time is valuable to you and have worked to try to schedule students during a time that is good for the student, the group and you. Groups will conclude during the week of November 10-14. Thanks for all of the suggestions that were given for group ideas and student recommendations. I appreciate your help!

Focusing on Character

We are about to wrap-up our first month of Cool Tool's and I hope that you and your Advisory students have began building a positive connection as a group. My goal in creating the Cool Tool's is to build more positive and lasting relationships between students and staff and between peer groups. Hopefully, this has been and will continue to be a positive experience. October's Word of the Month will be RESPECT.

As in the past, we will continue to acknowledge our LMS Students of the Month. Generally, this group is made up of two students for each grade level who have shown above and beyond positive behaviors and attitudes in all classes. These students model our high expectations that we have set for Lonoke Middle School.

This year, though, we are adding an additional way to celebrate our students. Each month we will have an assembly to recognize not only our LMS Students of the Month, but also any other students that have demonstrated our character word of the month or have shown an outstanding act of character. The teacher or grade level making this nomination will be asked to briefly acknowledge these students at our assembly. Here are a few suggestions in choosing an LMS Character Kid:

1. Student must have exhibited our character word consistently this month.

2. Teachers/Staff (not included in Grade Level meetings) are encouraged to nominate a student (Thanks to those who have already done this.).

These assemblies will be separated by grade level and take place during Advisory. Sixth grade will assemble on Tuesday, October 7, Eighth grade will follow on Wednesday, October 8 and Seventh grade will wrap up our assemblies on Thursday, October 9. I look forward to celebrating our students with you!

Mrs. Swiney's Classroom Visits

Last year I visited classrooms during our Advisory period and did a short "mini-lesson" with our students. I would like to continue meeting with students in their classroom, but know that spending more time with students would be even more beneficial for their emotional/social/personal growth. So, I am needing your help! I know at times throughout the year there are days when you have a delay in ending a unit and beginning a new one. If through your planning, you note such a day, I would be thrilled if you would allow be to visit with each of your classes for about 30 minutes each period. Even better, if our Science and Social Studies teachers (who have all our students enrolled) knows in advance that they will be out for a doctor's appointment or to attend a professional development, I would love to be able to use that day to come into the classroom to work with our students. If anyone would like to volunteer, please email me or let me know so that we can get a schedule set up. THANK YOU in for your help.
