MARCH 2022
SENIOR UPDATE
SCHOLARSHIPS
Naviance & the scholarship bulletin board outside of the guidance office is bursting with free money & opportunities to help with the cost of college tuition! Most deadlines are April 1st to apply. The number of applications we have received is low, please encourage students to apply! Senior Awards Night will take place on June 2nd and we hope to distribute scholarships to a wide range of students!
Some scholarships require a transcript and letters of recommendation. Seniors will need to complete the Transcript Request Form and submit it to Mrs. Webb in guidance at least 5 days prior to the scholarship deadline. The form is also available on the PHS website, Guidance Google Classroom, and in the guidance office.

Junior Seminars
All juniors were scheduled in a guidance seminar with their counselor which will take place during Titan Time last month. During the seminars, we discussed and demonstrated the process to research careers they are interested in and colleges that offer the majors of their choice. Students received step-by-step instructions to complete during the spring of their junior year and during the summer prior to their senior year. Parents are strongly encouraged to review their child’s progress and college, career considerations. Many parents will log in to Naviance with their children to view their progress. However, if any parent or guardian would like to receive their own personal Naviance login, you can contact your child's guidance counselor.

The Junior Timeline/Checklist is available to download below.
SAT & ACT Testing Information
Any student that receives reduced/free lunch can see their guidance counselor for fee waivers (limited supply available).
Bridgewater State University is offering an SAT Prep course for a fee of $325. For more information click here.
Many colleges remain test-optional. To view a list of colleges that no longer require SAT/ACT scores please visit fairtest.org.
PROGRAM OF STUDIES NIGHT
Course Selection
Students in grades 8-11 will be scheduled in seminars throughout the month to meet with their guidance counselor to select courses for the 2022-2023 school year. The schedule for seminars is as follows:
- Grade 11 - Tuesday, March 8 - Friday, March 11
- Grade 10 - Tuesday, March 15 - Friday, March 18
- Grade 9 - Tuesday, March 29 - Friday, April 1
- Grade 8 - During 21st Century Skills March 7-April 1
Students are strongly encouraged to read course descriptions in the 2022-2023 Program of Studies prior to selecting courses. The Content Supervisors held assemblies during Titan Time in February to discuss course sequences and course elective options. (Due to a snow delay the grade 9 assembly has been delayed and will be rescheduled prior to their course selection seminars).
Tutoring Supports
- Schedule to meet with the teacher during Titan Time for additional help
- Meet with the teacher before or after school when they are available
- Request to participate in the peer tutoring program that takes place during Titan Time in the Academic Resource Center
If any parent/guardian is looking for additional support outside of what is available in school and would like to hire a tutor, the guidance department from several south shore high schools have collaborated to create a database of certified teachers available to tutor. The fees will be determined by the individual tutor and may vary.
