You Are Invited
Please come and help your child build a candy house during our class party on Thursday, December 17th. The fun will begin at noon. Siblings not yet in school are welcome to come too.
Next week the class will figure out exactly what supplies we need for our buildings. I will let you know what your child has volunteered you to provide.
American Revolution
We have started our simulation of the American Revolution. This week we selected identities and discussed joining the Minutemen, Next week it's on to Lexington and Concord for the Shot Heard Round the World.
The kids will be reading Revolution themed books as well. Most will read Fighting Ground, by Avi. Just like Blood on the River, Fighting Ground has been a favorite of past classes. A small group will read the Two Georges ( a book about George Washington and King George III).
Real World Math
We have been working on scaling fractions. By Christmas Break the kids should be able to take any recipe you have and figure out how to adjust the ingredients for more or less servings.
We are also practicing explaining our mathematical thinking in writing so another student can replicate exactly what we did to solve the problem.
Yes, Virginia, There is a Santa Claus
This week the kids (who don;t have Read 180) have been working on writing persuasive pieces about the existence of Santa Claus. I will be contacting the Ft. Campbell Courier about publishing the best of the essays in the annual Letters to Santa section.
