Take Home Books
Your child brings home a couple of reading take-home books each week. These books practice, teach, and reinforce the specific skills that we are learning in class. We do read these books in class. These books contain words that are decodable based on the letters sounds we have been working on. They also contain many of the popcorn words (sight words) that we have learned. Please have your child read these books to you each night for additional practice with these important skills. When your child reads, remind them that their reading should sound like talking (fluency). I suggest that you keep these books on a shelf or in a basket at home for your child to practice reading.
**Please note that these are kindergarten on-grade level books for this time of the year. I also read with your student at teacher table during Literacy Work Stations using books at their specific reading level. You may also see some of these books come home (some are copied that I can send home). Ask your child about our leveled library where they can also read books at their specific reading level. Two other ways your child can read books at their personal reading level: Raz Kids online and many books in the Scholastic book order are leveled that you can purchase. I have recently assessed your child's reading level. I have updated that on Raz Kids. You will also see your child "borrowing" our leveled books. When your child brings their book bag home, please listen to your child read it and return it the following day. The kids are very excited about borrowing books from me that they can read!
We have created this page to help your child practice for the various levels of the Chomputation tests. Check this out!
