St. Joseph eUpdate
Hearts Aflame For the Love of Christ <Date>
Moving Along with Mrs. Maddox
Dear Friends in Christ,
Communication is a tricky thing, especially when you are trying to juggle the day to day life of a family. I remember several years ago my husband shared with me the time and date of his new company’s Christmas party. I marked it on the calendar, but didn’t ask any more details. I was more than surprised the evening of the party when he shared with me it was a black-tie event. You can only imagine how the conversation went from there!!!
Probably one of the most important parts of being a principal is knowing what to communicate and share, doing it in a timely efficient way, and making sure ALL of the information is valid and accurate before it goes out. When you get it right very few people notice, but when you get it wrong …. Oh my!!! In an effort to communicate in a very strategic and effective way, you may have noticed the new look and feel of our weekly eUpdate. I am also hoping you have noticed a few other intentional changes. First, it has been consistent and weekly, and comes to you on Thursday afternoon … before the weekend push! Monday is too late to know what is going on that week, and Friday is too hectic to pay attention! On Thursday, generally, the family routine is still in production mode. I also hope you have noticed that we include events for the next several weeks, making it really easy to preplan. We are also working very hard NOT to clutter your email inbox with multiple emails to keep up with each week, we are trying to minimize all the items your family has to read and keep track of. Other things to pay attention to in our weekly eUpdate, include feedback and information from our nurse and our counselor. These two important ladies have the pulse of our school in the palm of their hands on a daily basis. The items they share are very important and something to really take notice of, a big thank you to both of them for taking time to do this weekly.
The eUpdate is your way to stay connected to your child’s daily routine. Taking a few minutes to quickly read through the eUpdate will keep you and your student(s) in the know!! Of course, we will always have an occasional change in schedule or fun dress down day to announce (Go Chiefs!), so we will rely on our daily intercom announcements, our official school Facebook page, and an occasional random all school email to keep you in the loop.
Lastly, we are so very excited to announce that a new school website will be unveiled in just a few weeks!!!! We have been working hard behind the scenes to update the look, feel, and relevance of our school website. We will be launching a new platform that will not only be St. Joseph family friendly, but it will also help prospective families get a quick look at our very special community. Keep your eyes open for the new website, with “Hearts Aflame for the Love of Christ,” we will soon be showing off our amazing school in a very special way!!!
With a grateful heart,
Jodie Maddox

Parking
Please do not park in the Handicapped parking spaces in the morning and walk students into school. If you would like to walk your child to the front door we ask that you park in the west parking lot, and use the cross walk.
St. Joseph is Going Green!
St. Joseph is going green ❤️ A few students have asked Mrs. Maddox if St. Joseph could stop using plastic drinking straws at lunch to help save the environment??? How cool is that!!! Please note, Mrs. Hirt, our cafeteria manager, will not be ordering any new drinking straws once we have finished using the ones we already have. Nice job to our students for taking ownership of our environment.
Altar Server Training!
Serving at the Altar of God is an incredible honor, privilege and blessing. Altar Server training will run from February 3-6. Training consists of two separate sessions (I & II) and a trainee must attend one of each session, but is welcome to attend extra sessions if they desire. Once training is complete the servers will be added to the March or April schedule and serve approximately once every four to six weeks. Children must be in the fifth grade or above.
Session I
February 3 @ 3:20 pm-5:00 pm
February 4 @ 3:20 pm-5:00 pm
Session II
February 5 @ 3:20 pm-5:00 pm
February 6 @ 3:20 pm-5:00 pm
St Joseph Grade School students may sign up in their home rooms or with Mrs. Pigott. School of Religion students may call the Christian Formation Office or Michelle Hanson.
All training takes place in the church. Children will be escorted to the church from the school and should meet in the Commons area immediately after school. STREAM Academy students will be escorted back to school. After school sessions will be provided with snacks courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. Questions or sign up: Michelle Hanson @ 913-660-4693 or stjoeservers@gmail.com.
Nurse's Notes
We have had a confirmed case of Influenza B in 3rd grade and Influenza A in 5th grade. As a reminder, symptoms of influenza can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue and occasionally vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults). If diagnosed within the first 48 hours of the onset of symptoms, an antiviral drug may be prescribed which can shorten the duration of the illness.
Vaccination continues to be the best preventative measure to avoid contracting influenza. If your child has a temperature of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or greater, they must remain home until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication. Encourage good hand washing, especially after coughing or sneezing and avoid touching the eyes, nose or mouth to limit the spread of germs. Please report any illness to the school nurse so we can continue to track illnesses and keep the school community informed.
