who invented oil paints and who brought it back to life?
it is not totally clear who invented oil painting. oil painting dates back to 650 AD in the Afghanistan caves. The artist that brought it back to life was Jan Van Eyck, or the Van Eyck brothers.
how was it in the renaissance?
the artist normally drew a under picture with a brush and very thin paint, and he would paint over it multiple times using light tones and dark tones. they used tempera and for this they would mix eggs and a pigment. colors were limited, but they could chose different mediums. for oil painting, they had more color choices, mistakes were more easily fixed, and they could make translucent effects. oil painting was slower though because oil does not dry fast.
what year did it originate? - it originated in 650 AD
how has it changed through the years?
oil painting is still used today the same as it was used before. the techniques are still the same. artists now may add something over it to make it look even more glossy.
