What causes it

  • It is caused by mosquitoes, they get infected when they feed on infected birds.
  • You can not get infected from casual contact with an infected person or animal.
  • In very few cases it is caused from organ transplantations and blood transfusions

What it is

  • It is a virus that comes from Africa, Eastern Europe, West Asia, and the Middle East
  • It is a member of the Flaviviridae family

Signs and Symptoms- Mild

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Body aches
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Fatigue
  • Skin rash

Signs and Symptoms- Serious

  • High fever
  • Severe headache
  • Stiff neck
  • Confusion
  • Stupor or coma
  • Tremors or muscle jerking
  • Seizures
  • Partial paralysis or muscle weakness


Most people recovery from West Nile Virus without treatment, most severe cases require supportive therapy in a hospital with intravenous fluids and pain medicine
