DESE talks about Missouri Learning Standards/Work Groups
The Department received documents from all eight of the HB 1490 academic standards work groups in accordance with the legislated October 1 deadline. We are looking forward to reviewing the work groups’ recommendations for improving the Missouri Learning Standards. We are confident that the end result will produce high quality Missouri standards to help our students graduate college and career ready.
Here are the next steps:
· The work groups will present their recommendations to the State Board of Education at the third hearing on October 26.
· The Department will seek input from academic researchers and the Joint Committee on Education, as required by law.
· We will set up a public comment period from November 2 – December 2. We will notify you when we start collecting comments on the standards with information on how to submit those comments.
· We plan to present the Missouri Learning Standards to the Board at its February 2016 meeting, and they plan to vote on the recommendations by March 2016.
We want to thank the educators and parents who worked diligently over the last year to create these recommendations.
If you wish to review the work groups’ recommendations, please visit this web page for links: http://goo.gl/ZAFWa2.
Thanks,
Sarah

Congratulations to the Dixie Gray Band
For the PARADE competition, the Dixie Grays earned a 1 Rating, and finished 4th in our class (with 4th in music overall- out of 21 bands!).
For the FIELD competition, the Dixie Grays earned a 2 Rating (only two bands of the 18 received 1 ratings), finished 3rd in our class, and 5th overall in a field of 18 bands!
The band had a great day on Saturday, and received many good, constructive comments to improve upon before the second and last marching competition in Quincy, IL on October 17 at the Quincy Octoberfest.
