The Line of Demarcation Has Made a Huge Impact on the World! Say Hello to the Treaty of Tordesillas!
The 1490's have been a time of great discovery for European countries. These advancements have led Christopher Columbus to discovering new territory, the Line of Demarcation, and now the new Treaty of Tordesillas. The Line of Demarcation was set by the Pope to create two zones out of the non-European world. Spain and Portugal controlled their own area. New developments have shown that on June 7, 1494, Spain and Portugal met in Tordesillas and signed a treaty to move the Line of Demarcation. This move was made to give Portugal more territory. More territory will essentially provide more land to explore. Portugal and Spain have proven that they will fight for new exploration and this is clearly shown through the Treaty of Tordesillas.
