Progress Monitoring Week:
Spring Star Benchmark Testing is right around the corner... only 2 more POR progress monitoring weeks left. Please return your PM card to my mailbox when you are done progress monitoring.
SST Update:
- The Supplemental Support Team (tier II team) met this week to dig into how current tier II students are progressing. Our focus this week was on Reading Intervention and ML students. Several students will be transitioning to a different intervention and others will be receiving a quick para provided intervention during the day. (info to specific teachers will be communicated).
- Now that ACCESS testing is complete the ML team has revamped their services to ensure each lesson focuses on at least one of the four language domains (Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing) as well as a vocabulary component to broaden the students use of academic language. They have identified specific language functions that will be focused on the remainder of this year. This allows the students to receive services specific to their unique language needs. By taking this approach they are able to provide more specific instructional strategies and activities to grow their English Language proficiency.

Check In Check Out (CICO)
CICO Instructions for Teachers.docx
Here is a one-pager on what teachers do for the Check In/Check Out Intervention that I do with kids. Read it over to be sure you are helping us gather accurate information, and to help your student(s) get the most out of the intervention.
CICO is not just a behavior recording device. When you take a couple seconds after each class period to score a student's behavior and explain your score to them, you are giving them immediate and relevant feedback that, over time, will help them self-manage their behaviors. When scores are marked hours later, they most likely cannot remember and will not make those important connections. Once kids understand what will help them earn a 2, they can work hard to do those things more.
It is also important to give the positive feedback as often as possible. Trying to change a behavior is hard, especially when you have biology, home environment, and impulses working against you. Think about when we are evaluated for our lessons. One or two low marks stick with us and can really make us feel bad about ourselves. These kids that I see have many low marks every single day. We need to do all we can to help them not give up on themselves....and the best way to do that is to find the good, praise the good, and love them no matter what scores they have!
