Common Literary Techniques

Imagery
It is the use of figurative launguage to create visual representations. Eg
1. The beach was calm and noisy.
2. The room was dark and old.
3. That boy was fat and ugly.
Simile and Metaphor
Both compare two distinct objects and draws similarity between them. Eg
1. Her hair was as soft as a pillow. (simile)
2. she is a shining star in her class. (metaphor)
Hyperbole
It is deliberate exaggeration of actions and ideas for the sake of emphasis. Eg
1. Your hair is super duper long.
2. Your suit case weighs 2 tonne's.
3.m Your drawing is the bezst drawing in the whole intire world.
Personification
It gives a thing, an idea or an animal human qualities. Eg
1. The plants are dancing beside the tree.
2. The birds are singing on the tree branch.
3. The Water is swaying to the people.
Alliteration
The occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
1. Please put your pen away and play the piano.
2. The big bad bear attacked all the little bunnies in the forest.
3. Come and clean your closet.
Onomatopoeia
The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. Eg
1. Your going to hear me roar.
2. The sausages sizzled.
3. The water that came out of the hose sprinkled.
