Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival
News and updates
At this moment artists of all kinds are preparing for the 22nd Annual Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival, and that's very good news for all of us.
Pots are being fired and paintings are being framed.
Musicians are finessing new songs to play for you.
Puppet garments are being stitched and tweaked for a visual experience as rich as the stories they will tell.
Dance workshop leaders are choosing the steps and choreography they will share with you.
Menus are being finalized for the Culinary Court.
Book print runs are being checked.
Supplies are being assembled so visitors of all ages can make and take the new artwork they will create in our Art Zones, all free.
Color Dash participants are getting in their early morning runs to prepare for the 5K, while others of us are just looking for white shirts to make sure we catch as much air-borne color as possible.
And this is just the tip of the Colorscape iceberg.
As always, Colorscape is a FREE festival, held rain or shine during the weekend after Labor Day. Free parking can be found all around downtown Norwich in beautiful Chenango County, and all music, performances, and activities are free. This leaves you free to buy art and support the arts community, refresh your home with beautiful pieces, and accomplish all your gift giving for the year, if you care to. You can also choose treats and meals from our extensive Culinary Court. And as always, you are bound to see old friends and meet new ones.
We're excited!

RIP, Colorscape bus
That soft-blue bus was covered in bright colors and designs that drew the attention of everyone, and we do mean everyone. As our automotive mascot, the bus went to area events and community celebrations as a way to get the word out about our favorite festival. At each event we were approached by wide-eyed kids and others of a certain age who shared wistful stories about their own experiences with VW buses. At Colorscape itself, visitors sought out the bus and walked around slowly, carefully inspecting every inch as if to decipher a code written in flowers and handprints.
When driving the bus, if we weren't preoccupied with gusts of winds determined to nudge the bus out of its lane, or with whispered encouragement to help the bus climb hills, we would notice other drivers slowing down to get a closer look. We don't think it's possible to make more people smile on the road than what was quietly accomplished by the Colorscape bus, unless we get a dog to ride shotgun in a motorcycle sidecar, maybe.
The bus made people happy. The bus made us happy.
It came to stand for something beautiful, something remembered, and something experienced as a community. Like Colorscape.
It has been a fantastic ten years, and we owe a huge Thank You to Chris Ulatowski of The Label Gallery for letting us use it. Even though the bus garnered lots of fans, it was time to sell and a buyer has been found.
Adieu, old bus. We will really miss you.
(The good news: we'll still be at area events sharing information about Colorscape so keep looking for familiar, friendly faces. Come by and say hello!)

Preview: music coming to the NBT Main Stage
The Caravan of Thieves' debut show at Colorscape was a wild ride of laughter, color, percussion, and a little dose of "Bohemian Rhapsody" (as if Bohemian Rhapsody could ever be little...it cannot). We love the fiddle, the upright bass, the guitars, the vocals, and the experience of one of the most richly theatrical perfomances we know. We've been waiting a long time for their return.
Brother Sun is an acoustic trio beloved in festivals across the country, and there are always some in the audience who come expressly to hear music written and performed with their deep conviction, unwavering hearts, and beautiful voices. We always feel better for having heard them. We think their voices are tuned to the key of Hope.
