Who I interviewed....
I interviewed my Mom, Tara Rochon. She was in middle school from 1982-1984.
What kinds of music, movies and fashions were popular at that time?
Music: Duran Duran, Micheal Jackson, Madonna, and Van Halen.
Fashion: 7th grade, "preppy look". 8th grade, neon, jelly bracelets and big hair.
Movies: Breakfast Club, The Outsiders, Karate Kid, The Goonies.
What were you favorite activities in middle school? What were your hobbies and interests?
Mechanical drawing, wood and metal shop, hanging out with friends after school, exploring the woods in the neighborhood, playing man hunt, going to school dances and basketball games, drawing and sticker collecting.
What jobs/interests/activities do you have now? Is there any connection between what you like back then and what you enjoy today?
My job is counting and inventory for the Pepsi bottling company. I love letter boxing and is the only activity I do that links to back then. Also I love dancing.
What was the best part about being in middle school?
Friends, lockers, teams switching classrooms and different teachers.
What was the worst part?
Moving to a new school in eighth grade and having to making new friends and missing old ones really bad.
How would you describe your middle school self?
Very silly. Loved to play pranks on friends. Extremely adventurous always taking off and exploring new places. Outgoing always up for new things and new places.
What advice would you give to kids my age?
Be kind to all living things.
Take school seriously. If it's worth doing it's doing well.
Master time management.
Who was your favorite teacher?
Pre-Algebra teacher, Mrs. Parker.
