Calling All 4th Graders!
There will be a Fourth Grade Choral Festival on Saturday, 2.24, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the new FSSD Performing Arts Center. All fourth grade students are invited to learn songs from middle-level choir teachers and practice with current middle-level choir members. The day will end with an on-stage performance for families. Participating students will also receive an event t-shirt and be provided a pizza lunch. The cost for this day-long event is $25. Enter your registration information here; after submission you’ll be directed to the payment site. The deadline to sign up is Friday, 2.9.
Resolutions Worthy of Keeping...
Happy New Year! I recently read an article about making resolutions. Many people set goals and accomplished or not, it’s a tradition for some people. A recent poll by Mott Children’s Hospital shows 75% of parents want to exercise more patience. More than half of those polled want to spend less time on their phone. About half of the parents set health related goals stating that they want to provide healthier meals and snacks for their families. More than 1/3 plan to exercise with their kids. Setting goals for improvement can help define values and priorities and have positive effects on the health and well-being of the whole family. If you choose to make resolutions or not, have a happy 2024 !
Lisa Chatman, FSSD Coordinated School Health
Congratulations to Ms. (Morgan) Kettler, Ms. (Carrie) Lunsford, Ms. (Kaitlyn) Pickett, & Ms. (Mandy) Wiemers for being recommended for tenure at the February School Board Meeting!
Spring Conferences
MES teachers are offering spring conferences to parents from now until spring break. We want all parents to know they have the opportunity to have a conference with their child’s teacher; however, it is not mandatory. Teachers will be sharing additional information, in the meantime If you have any questions or wish to schedule a conference, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Capture the Memories, Purchase a Yearbook!
Do you want a keepsake of your child’s school year? Our 2023-24 Moore Elementary yearbook will be available for purchase during the month of February. The cost is $22. An order form can be found at the end of this newsletter, and payment can be made by cash, check, or Venmo. When feasible, please avoid paying with coins. If paying with Venmo, be sure to include your student's name and teacher. We are only able to accept prepayment for yearbooks - there will be no extra books for sale in May. If you need a hard copy of the order form, feel free to reach out to our front office and we will be happy to provide one for you!
Who Doesn't Love a Good Challenge for a Great Cause?

A Note from Nurse Sanders...
We’ve certainly had our fair share of sickness here at MES over the last few months! Let’s all work together to stop the spread of germs that can make you and others sick! Influenza (flu) and other serious respiratory illnesses are spread by coughing, sneezing, or unclean hands. To help stop the spread of germs, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put your used tissue in the waste basket. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
If your child is not feeling well, has had a fever over 100°, or has vomited within the last 24 hours, please keep them home to help control the spread of illness!
Thanks!
Sherry Sanders, RN
MES School Nurse
From our guidance classes, students know a small problem "is any problem I am big enough, strong enough, and smart enough to fix by myself." They are well versed in the ways of Kelso the Frog and the 9 ways of fixing a small problem, without needing an adult … this could be tattling. In February or March, depending on your child(ren)’s grade, we will be discussing big problems: if someone is hurt, doing something dangerous/unsafe, or breaking a rule/law. We will be reviewing a safety plan (say “NO," run away, and tell a safe person), practice being assertive, and learn to advocate for themselves. This includes personal safety (safe and unsafe touches, secrets, etc.) and the importance of reporting a big problem to a trusted adult immediately. This equips students to stay safe if a big problem does arise. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
As always, if there is anything I can do to help your child succeed please let me know,
Mr. C. -- Your MES School Counselor

Parenting Today's Tech Savvy Students
Technology is all around our kids, and as parents and caregivers it can be hard to navigate all of the technology out there. Common Sense Media is a great resource to see what's safe for kids, i.e. apps, video games, movies, etc. Check out these videos from Common Sense about Parenting in the Digital Age for more information.
