8th grade Welcome Night at LOHS

It is time 8th grade parents to gear up for the high school! This is a welcome night for both parents and students on February 7, 2019. See the flyer below for more details.

Teacher of the Year nominations

All through Lake Orion we are very proud of the many dedicated and outstanding teachers that work very hard for the success of our students. This is the time of year where we work with Oakland Schools and select an Oakview Middle School teacher as our 'Teacher of the Year'. This year we would love to have input from our families as we select our award winner.

Below is a link that will gather information that is necessary for the selection committee. If you believe an Oakview teacher has gone above and beyond for your child and/or family, we ask that you please complete the questions and short essay by January 22, 2019.

Thank you for your assistance in helping us to recognize our outstanding staff members for the great work they do.

Positivity Project - Optimism/Hope

We wrapped up Perseverance this week and move onto Hope. More information is below regarding both traits.

The concept of perseverance can most often be found in one’s active pursuit in overcoming obstacles. Perseverance is a uniquely human characteristic that identifies an individual’s ability to spend long periods of time devoted to a single goal or set of goals. Those who persevere are able to set goals for themselves and then take active, calculated steps toward those goals. People demonstrating high levels of perseverance are able to handle significant, sometimes repeated, setbacks in pursuit of goals.

Optimism means you expect the best from the future and work to achieve it. On this strength, we want to make an important note, as many people conflate positive psychology (and The Positivity Project) with "only seeing the positive and ignoring the negative." However, the importance of negative emotions -- and experiences -- is actually a key tenant in positive psychology and The Positivity Project.

Friends and Fun Night

Tonight is another Friends and Fun Night. Thank you to those folks that are able to volunteer! We really appreciate you. There are still a couple spaces that need volunteers so make sure to sign up if you are free for the evening. Though students were able to get the permission slip at lunch, it is also attached below.
