Principal's Message
Happy October!
I hope that your family was able to enjoy the gorgeous weather we had in September. The school year is off to a wonderful start! Our students are making new friends, getting to know their teachers, and learning the new routines of their classrooms. Students have also been reviewing and practicing skills to move them forward with their new grade level curriculum.
At Woodfield Elementary each classroom utilizes a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) Matrix as a guide for defining classroom-specific and school-wide behaviors. We use Cat Cash as an incentive for students to earn while following our Wildcat Way of being safe, respectful, responsible, and confident learners. In September Woodfield students worked as a school to earn a reward of an extra recess. They are currently working on earning more Cat Cash to earn the next school-wide reward. Students also have an opportunity to visit the Scratching Post which is a store where they can purchase various items for themselves with their Cat Cash. The staff at Woodfield are all very proud of our students and their hard work to make our school a wonderful place to be each day!
This month also brings a Social Emotional Learning focus on relationship skills. These monthly spotlights are taken directly from CASEL’s wheel.(Collaborative for Academic, Social, & Emotional Learning) Our goal is to cultivate skills and environments that advance our students’ learning and development. Teachers will be working on fostering these relationship skills through discussions and activities.
Woodfield Elementary staff feel privileged to have the opportunity to watch your children grow and be an active part of their learning each day. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or your child's teacher if you have questions, concerns, or celebrations to share.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Jessica Grimm
Principal
Counseling Corner Updates
This month in Counseling Class, we will be discussing bullying: what it is, how to report it, and how to stand up for yourself. We will also be informing students about a district-wide initiative: Speak Up Speak Out (SUSO). SUSO is a state of Wisconsin program where students can anonymously report if they see something of concern. Ask your child for more information or go to https://speakup.widoj.gov/ to find out more.
In addition, every month, WGSD will be highlighting a spotlight skill. Please check out each month’s newsletter to see more about the spotlight skill including: keywords, definitions, and areas of focus. Our District Wide SEL Spotlight Skill this month is Relationship Skills
