Sixth Sunday of Easter - May 6
Sunday's Gospel Reading
John 15:9-17 Jesus commands his disciples to love one another.
Family Connection
In family life, we have many opportunities to show love in action. Each time we postpone a task to tend to the needs of another, we show ourselves to be on the path to following the example of love shown to us by Jesus. Sometimes the sacrifices we are called upon to make for others are small. But these small choices to love and to serve others prepare us for the larger choices and sacrifices that we may be called upon to make. If we are people who have practiced showing our love for others with generosity, we will also be people who are willing to lay down our lives for those we love.
As you gather as a family, talk about the meaning of the word generosity. Ask each family member to describe an action that shows generosity. To be generous is to give freely to others without counting the cost. Recall that generosity is one of the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. Introduce Sunday's Gospel reading by saying that Jesus taught us to be generous in showing our love for one another. Read together the Gospel, John 15:9-17. What examples did Jesus give to us that show this kind of love? (washing his disciples’ feet; accepting death on the cross) Jesus helps us to show this kind of love to others. In today’s Gospel, Jesus promised that God will give us whatever we ask for. One of the things we can ask for from God is a generous spirit so that we can love others as Jesus did. Conclude in prayer together by praying Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s Prayer for Generosity.

Bedding Plants, Compost and Bottle Drive
Plant Sale Volunteer Opportunity!!
May 12, 2018
Parent Council is looking for people who would like to help out at the plant sale. This is an important fundraiser to support various activities and resources within St. Luke. The jobs are simple such as assisting people purchasing plants, arranging plants, cashier. Students may help with carrying plants out to the car and easy cleanup. If you are new to our school or an existing family the plant sale is a great chance to help and meet other families. If you would like to volunteer we would appreciate 1-2 hours. If interested contact Kyla Norris threader94@gmail.com.
Families are invited to bring empty bottles to the school the week of May 7-12. One of our parents, Dave, will take bottles to the depot on May 12 after the plant sale. Proceeds from the bottle collection will go towards an artist (musician) in residence program.
Mark your calendars for May 12 when Parent Council will be hosting a plant sale, compost sale, and bottle drive. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to purchase your bedding plants and top grade compost all in time for Mother's Day! Please note this is the last week to purchase gift certificates that can be used at both the plant sale and at South Cooking Lake Greenhouse. Send your order form in before Friday, May 4. Thank you in advance for your support.
