Harlem Wizards
Last year the Harlem Wizards entertained us with trick hoops and alley oops and our families loved this! The Sparkman family is doing this again. Join us on Feb. 9, 2020 at 2 PM for a game of basketball between teachers and the Wizards. It is an awesome family event held in the Sparkman High School gymnasium. The profits from this event will be shared between all schools equally.

Alabama State Report Card for Schools
Endeavor's state report card information is below. I am excited to say that Endeavor is moving in the right direction. Over the past three years, our report card score has gone from 84 (2016-2017), to 85 (2017-2018), and to this year's score of 87 (2018-2019). I have provided some information here about the reason we use this score and the weight of the categories. A more detailed explanation can be found in the technical bulletin from the Alabama State Dept. of Education. The link is HERE.
Alabama Act No. 2012-402, requires the State Superintendent of Education to develop a school grading system reflective of school and district performance. This law requires the state to use state-authorized assessments and other key performance indicators that give a total profile of the school or school district, or both. A school’s grade, at a minimum shall be based on a combination of Academic Achievement, Academic Growth, Graduation Rate (for schools with a grade 12), College and Career Readiness (for schools with a grade 12), and Chronic Absenteeism.
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) is the federal law that governs education in the United States. The ESSA requires that states develop a state-wide accountability system that is based on challenging State academic standards for reading or language arts and mathematics to improve student achievement and school success.
Alabama’s approved ESSA plan merges the requirements of both state and federal law into one Accountability System that differentiates among the schools and districts within Alabama.
The goal of the Alabama State Department of Education Accountability Section is to present to stakeholders the data required by the Alabama Report Card Law and the ESSA in an easily accessed and transparent manner.
Academic Achievement Indicator
Academic Achievement Indicator – An Accountability System Indicator determined based on the number of
students in the areas of reading/English and math in tested grades on Scantron and the Alabama Alternate Assessment. This score is 40% of the overall score.
Academic Growth Indicator
Academic Growth Indicator – An Accountability System Indicator determined based on individual students who
demonstrate improvement in reading/English and math in tested grades on Scantron and the Alabama Alternate Assessment. This score is 45% of the overall score.
Chronic Absenteeism Indicator
Chronic Absenteeism Indicator – An Accountability System Indicator determined based on the percent of students
in grades K-12 who missed a total of 18 or more days (excused or unexcused) of the time enrolled. Points are based on
students present. This score is 15% of the overall score.
