Principal's Message
Dear Bulldog Families,
We have had another great week at New Britton! We are continuing work on our routines, expectations, and building academic stamina. I have already witnessed some in-depth thinking and learning in the classrooms. Next week, we will begin our monthly, grade-level Professional Learning Community meetings with our teachers. Each grade level will have the opportunity to meet for an hour (on different days) to collaborate regarding best practice for teaching and learning. Special Area teachers, Mrs. Leiner, and Mrs. Wood will be teaching enrichment lessons during the last 30 minutes of the day. They will also be dismissing our students. As always, please be sure to make any end-of-day transportation changes by 2:00 at the latest. Thank you for following this important procedure.
We have spent some time in the past several weeks talking about one of our core expectations in which students and staff are encouraged to “Make Their Day.” We have discussed that there are many ways, big and small, in which children and adults can give back to their community. There are many opportunities every day for all of us to “Make Someone’s Day” - kind words, helping someone, returning a lost item, etc.
Along the same lines, we have a donation opportunity in which we, as a school, can give to our community. If you are able, we encourage you to participate in the “Pasta Bowl” food drive through the donation of any type of pasta. Please send donations in from September 1-11. The pasta collected will benefit food pantries serving the Fishers and Indianapolis communities.
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal

Chaucie's Place
NEW BRITTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL is partnering again this year with Chaucie’s Place, a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County, to bring Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children to our Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Smart Steps is a child sexual abuse prevention and education program that empowers your child to say “NO!” to any unwanted touches that make them uncomfortable from anyone.
The Smart Steps education program will be taught at NBE on October 20.
We invite you to attend a Chaucie’s Place Parent Night to learn more about the Smart Steps program. Fall Creek Elementary will be hosting on Tuesday, September 15th from 6:00pm-7:00pm and Sand Creek Elementary will be hosting from 6:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 23rd. These meetings are open to all parents and/or guardians of Kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade students. Please be advised that Parent Night is not open to children. To learn more about Chaucie’s Place visit: www.chauciesplace.org.
Child Find
What to do if you suspect a disability/Child Find:
If your child is age 2 ½ through 21, attends any school within the Hamilton Southeastern Schools boundaries or you live in our community, and you suspect your child may have a disability, you should contact us for more information.
· For children at least two and a half years of age, but not yet age-eligible for kindergarten, you should contact the Early Childhood Assessment Team at Brooks School Elementary School, 915-4250.
· For students who are eligible for kindergarten through age 21, you should contact your child’s teacher, school counselor or building administrator to discuss your concerns and explore the steps to be taken. If your child is not enrolled in public school, you should contact the counselor or building administrator in the building your child would attend if enrolled.
Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matched to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
New Staff Spotlight
I am originally from Mishawaka, IN and I'm a big ND and Bears football fan. I am married to my husband Craig and we live in Noblesville. I starting working as a preschool teacher at 19 while attending IU in South Bend. This is my 5th year teaching kindergarten and I love it!! In my spare time I love reading a good book- my favorite is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn and I love going to the movies. I also love teaching the STEM components because of the hands-on research and problem solving it presents for the students.
PTO News
New Britton's first movie night is on September 18th. This is a fun event for all of our students, but it takes the help of many hands to make it possible. If you're available to help, please contact Marty Blake at marthill916@yahoo.com . Thanks!
Mums
Mum order forms are due next Tuesday Sept. 1st, so you have one last weekend to help raise funds for the school.
