That's a Wrap!

Big picture

Hello, Schweitzer families.

WE DID IT! The 2021-2022 school year is officially a wrap! Boy were we busy the end of May and the month of June. Take a look at all the activities and events that took place in the final weeks of school:

  • Schweitzer Art Show
  • Schweitzer Fun Run
  • NSD Sunset Challenge
  • Culminating 5K for our 'Girls on the Run' Team
  • Field Trips for Grades 1, 2, 3, & 4
  • Schweitzer Field Day
  • Albert Schweitzer Bike-to-School Day
  • Kindergarten Graduation
  • 4th Grade Luau Dance
  • 4th Grade Move Up Ceremony
  • Grade-Level End-of-Year Celebrations for K-4

Thank you to our students, staff, and PTO for supporting all of these events and for volunteering your time to be a part of them. My biggest advice is to have your child(ren) participate in the Summer Canvas Course, complete minutes on iReady in math and reading, and to participate in our Summer Reading Challenge. These activities will not only help your child(ren) be more successful in the coming school year, but they will help engage your child over the summer and encourage the love of reading!

To our graduating fourth grade students, make us proud in your experiences and choices at middle school and beyond. We will miss you and wish you lots of continued success in your learning journey!

Have a safe, healthy, and eventful summer!

See you next school year!

Summer Reading Challenge

Big picture

Summer is here, and our Neshaminy Reading and Math Specialists have prepared some awesome lists and activities to keep our students engaged as they enjoy their break. The District Reading Specialists have posted suggested reading lists for every grade with an emphasis on choice giving students the opportunity to find enjoyable reading material that their matched their interest and reading style.

The summer math units are designed to build grade-level proficiency and remediate learning gaps. Students in Grades K-6 can complete weekly lessons online using iReady My Path as well as complete optional math packets designed to introduce them to concepts they will be learning in each grade level.

In addition, our elementary reading and math specialists have prepared the following resources for parents to help them navigate the Summer Learning Program:

Be sure to support your child in our district-wide Summer Reading Challenge. Be sure to access the Summer Reading Canvas course to get a copy of the Summer Reading Challenge gameboard if you lost yours. The interactive .pdf document below of the Summer Elementary Reading Lists allows your children to click on books and interact with books online through the app SORA. They can earn badges and will find it fun and engaging. Most importantly, it will help students be prepared for learning in the fall. The interactive reading lists and 1st time Log-in directions for SORA are attached. Please encourage your child(ren) to join in the fun!

Girls On The Run 5K

Girls on the Run completed their culminating 5K on Saturday, May 21st. It was wonderful to see teammates cheering each other on and encouraging effort and strength in completing the race. Girls also had a Runnig Buddy throughout the race which was a family member, friend or Schweitzer GOTR Coach encouraging them along the way. Way to go girls! The team also completed a culminating Community Project to bring in supplies for local animal shelters.

Title I at Albert Schweitzer

The Tile I Steering Committee consisting of teachers, reading Specialists, the school Counselor, principal, and parents reviewed our Title 1 goals for the 2021-2022 school year. The team reviewed our progress for the year and discussed focus goals for the 2022-2023 school year. Student data from our End-of-year assessments was incredibly positive and demonstrated a great deal of growth for our students. A major focus for us instructionally this year was on interventions provided for students in the area of math and reading during WIN (What I Need), and during Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions through MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support). Schweitzer staff and students can be proud of their efforts!

2021-2022 Title 1 Goals

Literacy:

Increase percentage of K-4 students reading at grade-level benchmark or above by 10%. (Students K-4 increased 21 percentage points from BOY to EOY on DIBELS assessments. 63% of students met their 'Typical Growth' goals on iReady for Reading.)

Math:

45% of our students will reach their 'Typical Growth' goals by the end of the 2021-2022 school year on the iReady math diagnostic. (70% of students met this goal)

Thank you to Mr. Curtin and the student volunteers from Neshaminy High School for helping to run Field Day Stations at Albert Schweitzer. It was a wet day in the morning, but it turned out to be a beautiful and fun day for all. Parents came to observe, and we even had a visit from Leo, the Lion!

4th Grade Move-Up Ceremony

Big picture

Big picture
Fourth grade students were honored at Albert Schweitzer's 4th Grade Move-Up Day on Thursday, June 16th. Students celebrated with a 4th grade Roll Call along with individual and group awards for leadership and specific areas. Group awards included Orchestra, Band, Chorus, Safety Patrol, and Students Ambassadors. Individual Awards included the Jordan Wallis Perseverance Award, Mason Allen Memorial Award, Presidential Awards (Silver & Gold), and Principal Awards.

In my closing Words of Wisdom, I reminded students to say 'Aloha' to folks more often to foster relationships and to build their 'Ohana' and family around them carefully. I also asked students to think about the beauty of Hawaii and reflect on what would make their life beautiful. What would you like to surround yourself with to feel happy? What would you need to have in your life to feel successful? Finally, 'Kulia i ka nu'u,' or strive to reach the highest. Work hard, set goals, and work toward your dreams. You can do it. You just need to believe in yourself first. "May their always be winds behind you, rainbows above you, and aloha around you!"

Progress Reports Available in Home Access

Be sure to log into Home Access if you did not receive a copy of your child's final Trimester 3 Progress Report. It's important that you talk with your child about their Progress throughout teh year and set goals together for the 2022-2023 school year.

Summer Chromebook Repair

Chromebooks may be kept over the summer for any supplemental/enrichment activities that may be provided by the district. If your device is in need of repair over the summer you may have it repaired or replaced with a loaner by appointment only.

All repairs will be at the Neshaminy High School starting June 20th. Please follow the signs when entering the High School drive and proceed to door 37 (Bus Port Parking Lot). This is the only location that will be available for any device issue during the summer. Please scroll down to Chromebook Help on the District Webpage to make your appointment for any repairs. A loaner will be provided during the repair.

PLEASE make sure that any repairs that are needed are addressed over the summer so that your device will be ready for the start of the new school year.
