Mrs. Greene's 3rd Grade

Last Full Week In January
We were VERY productive at school this week! I feel like we are moving right along making steady gains, especially in Reading. I have seen a huge jump in reading interest and enthusiasm in Room 9. Students are being met with every single day to check in on their book selection, reading comprehension, fluency/rate, and making sure students are completing their Reading Logs in their Reader's Notebook.
Students in Room 9 are becoming so excited about reading. The Scholastic Book order came in today and the students could not wait to get their new books out and begin reading.
Please check your child's Rocket Folder for a handout about a wonderful app called EPIC. It is a reading app that has an unlimited amount of books across many different genres for students to enjoy. If your child could benefit from the books being read-aloud, that is an option with this app. Click HERE to read more about it. If you are interested in trying it, there is a 30-day free trial. After that, it costs $5 per month. You can cancel at any time. Please use my classroom code (found on the handout) if you decide to sign up.
I received one Leadership Application last week. Be sure to remind your child to come and see me if he/she would like to be a member of one of the SRE Leadership Teams.
Looking forward to a GREAT week next week!
Enjoy your weekend...

Around Room 9...
These eight statements are an important part of math instruction each day. I explained to the students at the beginning of the year that these SMPs are things that all mathematicians do! I really stress SMP #6. Ask your child what SMP #6 is... He/she should be able to tell you! We talk about it constantly in math class.
3rd Grade Trivia
At a carnival, Ross and his brother collected 61 pieces of candy all together. Each of them ate 4 pieces of candy that evening. The next day, Ross had 23 pieces left. How many pieces did Ross's brother have left?
