"Hey Dude, Nice Shoes!" - Parent Workshop on November 8th
“Hey Dude, Nice Shoes!”
Lago Vista High School
Performing Arts Center
November 8, 2017
Lago Vista ISD has invited Mrs. Carolyn Jennings Brown to give a presentation to Lago Vista parents and community regarding establishing bullying definitions for our families. She will discuss how to recognize and prevent bullying in our ever-changing, technologically advanced world. More from our speaker:
I am a fervent advocate of Public Schools and have been volunteering and serving the public school system in the state of Texas for the past 15 years. I have done everything from substitute teach to mentoring students to answering phones in the office. In short, I have made public schools my life's work. I started speaking to groups about parenting perspective about six years ago. A word kept bubbling up in our discussions...Bullying. I would hear it on the radio, read it in the headlines and see it on the news. Why is this suddenly such an epidemic and WHAT makes in different now? In the past two years, I have developed an anti-bullying/ pro-kindness workshop for students and their parents. " Hey Dude, nice shoes" is a customizable presentation geared at educating students and their parents about the who, what, when, where, whys and hows of Bullying. I have traveled all over the state delivering this message to thousands of students and their parents. Through this two part presentation my goal is to educate and inspire children and adults alike to -be the change- and make a positive difference in our world. I cover everything from basic definitions and policies to recent legislation pertaining to bullying in schools. Through personal stories...and some hilarious pictures I try to make one relatable point. We are all human. We all are fighting a battle that no one knows anything about and we all can take a moment to be kind.
We hope to see our LVES parents there!

Character Trait of the Month - Giving
- Do kind and thoughtful things for people in need;
- Put other people's needs before your own;
- Volunteer your time and resources for charity;
- Managing resources so that I can give and share them with those in need.
Students will learn more about Giving in Guidance with Mrs. Sexton!
Hello LVES Families! This month during our guidance class lessons, students will be learning about the character trait of Giving. People are giving when they do kind and thoughtful things for others. Students will understand the importance of helping others and ways they may be able to use their time or talents to help others in need, as well as simply giving kindness to others.
This Sunday, November 5 from 2-4 pm, the LVISD Clothing Closet will be giving out Free Coats and Clothing to families in our community who need them. The Clothing Closet is located in Portable 6 behind Lago Vista Intermediate School on 1431. Please spread the word!
