Weekly Update
Mayor's Fitness Council of San Antonio
Message from Full Council Chair
I am extremely excited to take on the role of the incoming Chair of the San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council. I have seen first-hand the value of the work of this group in helping to move San Antonio forward as a leader in health and fitness.
The work of our student ambassadors, our Get Strong with Mayor Ron events, the Healthy Workplace Recognition Program, and the collaborative work of our community committee in supporting events throughout our city are but a few examples of the impact the Mayor’s Fitness Council is having on building a culture of health and wellness in our city.
As we move forward, I share the Mayor’s Vision of continuing to advance awareness of mental health concerns and also improving health equity in our community. I know each of you share my enthusiasm for the future of our council. Whether it be through promoting best practices in our schools, supporting our Student Ambassadors, adopting healthy practices in your workplace, or participating in the events of our Community Committee, there is a place for you in the work we are doing.
We need your help to make our vision of “A San Antonio where residents have opportunities to move more, eat better, and stay connected” become a reality.
- Mandy Tyler, Mayor's Fitness Council Chair

MFC Recognized as a State Model
The Mayor’s Fitness Council was invited to present to the Texas Statewide Health Coordinating Council on February 27th. We were the only Fitness Council across the state of Texas that received a special invitation to present on our community efforts. Our Full Council Chair, Mandy Tyler and our Communications Committee Chair, Joseph Garcia did a phenomenal job representing our Council!
The State Health Coordinating Council Members were blown away after hearing about all that we are working on here in San Antonio and felt that we are a state model for what a Mayor’s Fitness Council should look like.
Congratulations to all MFC members and partners for your support and participation in the Council - when Mandy and Joseph presented today, they represented your efforts well!

The Mayor's Fitness Council will be hosting the Mayor's Fitness Council Siclovia Reclovia at Roosevelt Park on Sunday, March 29th in Southtown San Antonio. The Siclovia Task Force Team has been hard at work coordinating the Reclovia to make it a great resource and experience for Siclovia participants to enjoy and benefit from!
Per Brenda Gonzalez, there is still room for more Mayor's Fitness Council community partners to set up a space within the Reclovia. If interested, please contact Brenda at 210-612-1476 or Bert Pickell at 210-273-7983 or bpickell@satx.rr.com.
In the photo above it shows the scale of the Mayor’s Fitness Council Reclovia as outlined in yellow. In the middle are areas we cannot use such as the pool area and clubhouse. Where you see the neon dots are where some partners have hoped that they will be placed. To the left side is additional space for community partners to set up.
Community Committee Chairman, Bert Pickell has asked for the MFC's support in coming out to the Reclovia and sharing on your social media about the MFC's Reclovia.

COVID-19 Information
From Mayor Nirenberg: As we move forward from the Lackland evacuees situation, our local, state and federal partners remain committed to preventing the spread of COVID-19 within our community.
There are currently zero (0) cases of community transmitted COVID-19 in Bexar County and San Antonio. The risk of infection in the general public remains low.
San Antonio Metro Health has opened a COVID-19 hotline for residents to ask questions about the virus. The hotline is available in English & Spanish. To ask your questions: call 210.207.5779 Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Some practical COVID-19 prevention tips:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Cover your cough and sneeze with a tissue, then throw the issue in the trash.
If you're sick, stay home.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
I'm proud of our local response, which has addressed this issue with the utmost readiness, transparency and compassion.
Thank you all for your continued patience and understanding.
