Seniors:
Since we are planning an outdoor commencement at the Moss Field Stadium in Memorial Park, and there is a possibility of unfavorable weather, some of these announcements must carry two sets of instructions.
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENCES CAREFULLY:
- Commencement is Friday, May 17, 2019, at Moss Field Stadium at 6:30 p.m. In case of rain, the ceremony will be in Roberts Gym at 6:30 p.m.
- Friday evening report to your line-up room at Hixson at 5:30 p.m. If you are at Roberts Gym, report to the Activities Office at 5:15 p.m.
- You may leave wraps and purses in the line-up room. DO NOT BRING MONEY!! If it is a warm evening, young men may leave their coats there. You may wish to bring a hanger for your coat.
- Ladies must wear comfortable dress shoes (the walk from Hixson to the stadium is difficult in high narrow base heels).
- Young men are to wear dress shirts and ties. Dress slacks are preferable, and you must wear shoes.
- At Hixson, we will line up at 6:00 p.m. At Roberts Gym, we will line up at 6:00 p.m. Cooperate with your sponsor to make your section of the line correct and complete.
- Return of cap and gown: After the ceremony, please return to the line-up room at Hixson. Graduation diplomas are not issued during the ceremony but will be issued in the line-up room after your cap and gown is returned. You may keep your cap and tassel (Webster Groves High School reserves the right to withhold a diploma after the ceremony to any individual displaying inappropriate actions before or during the ceremony).
- Commencement is a happy time. It is also an occasion of dignity. The success of it, the smoothness of procedure, and the beauty of the ceremony depends upon:
Careful observance of all cues for working together as a class
No talking after you near the stadium or enter the gym
No Gum
Team work and common courtesies will give us a program for which we can justly be proud.
A FEW CUES TO REMEMBER:
- At Hixson, as the double processional line forms, each person checks to see that the partner in the opposite line has the identical line-up number.
- When you reach your seat in the stadium, look to Mr. Collins or Mr. Ice, who will give the seating instructions.
- Stand for the National Anthem. Your cue to stand and be seated will be announced over the P. A. system by Dr. Irvin (on the platform).
- Remember: DO NOT STAND WHEN THE BAND AND CHOIR MEMBERS GO FOR THEIR SPECIAL NUMBERS.
- WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR DIPLOMAS: ROW 1, SOUTH SECTION, WILL RECEIVE THEIR DIPLOMAS FIRST. WHEN DR. SIMPSON INDICATES THAT IT IS TIME TO RECEIVE DIPLOMAS, THE FIRST ROW LOOKS TO THE CUE MAN FOR INSTRUCTIONS.
