National Hispanic Heritage Month
For Spanish class, students learned about National Hispanic Heritage Month. This event is celebrated yearly in the United States from September 15th to October 15th. This is the time to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
Students from 6th to 8th grade played Bingo by reading small, short biographies of famous Hispanic people. Students then had to match the English description on the Bingo Cards. The students were amazed at how much they understood and how much they could translate. It was a great way to practice reading and interpreting the Spanish language.
Some of the influential people students read about were:
Sonia Sotomayor, Tony Romo, Ellen Ochoa, Franklin Chang Diaz, America Ferrera, Jose Gomez
