Curriculum
BOOK ORDERS - this will be the last book order I put in before Christmas. Books make GREAT gifts! If you want to surprise your kiddo with books just let me know. I'll send you an email when they arrive and have them in the office for you to pick up without your kiddo knowing!
Reading -
This week we focused understanding a character through their thoughts, words, and actions while reading the story "Me and Uncle Romie."
Writing-
We are wrapping up our narrative writing pieces this week!
Don't forget.... Spelling words are also located on our website http://www.grayskiddos.com/spelling-words.html
Math -
We have started our unit on decimals. Kids need extra practice with saying decimal names. For 0.45 they want to say zero point four five - please correct them if they say it this way. They should be saying 45 hundreths. Or if it is 1.5 they should say one and five tenths.
Science -
I had the kids fix their matter tests in the classroom this week. It was a tough tough test. Corrected tests will be coming home on Monday. We have started our animal adaptation unit.
Social Studies -
WOW oh WOW!! The kids rose to my challenge getting a hot cocoa coupon for an A on their states and capitals test. 29 kids will be recieving a coupon to use. 28 kiddos got an A+ on the assessment.
We have started on the Southeast Region. Their test will be on December 11. Flashcards are coming home today. They will need tape or glue to make them at home this weekend.
Computer Lab
In case you missed my email from earlier this week....
Fourth graders accessed their school email today for the first time. They can only send/recieve email to/from people in the p(ccsk12.com domain. So at this time you will not be able to email them you won't be able to until your child reaches middle school). We talked a lot before getting into our email about being good digital citizens. We also decided that if we wouldn't say something to Mr. Burt directly then we shouldn't be typing it. We also talked about cyberbullying and not opening an email from someone we do not know. At this time they are only allowed to email me (at anytime) or someone as a class project. I want to closely monitor their email usage for a bit. Today they sent me an email as well as emailed their 2nd grade buddies. Some students asked if they could email a sibling or a friend, my answer to them was no, not right now. Please feel free to have your kiddo sign into their google account and have them show you the email that they sent.

40 Book Challenge
We are also finally talking about the 40 book challenge. The point of the challenge is just to broaden their reading choices. If they only read 20 books this year that is 20 books more than they might have read! This is also not graded and the kids know that. We will be talking about the books they are reading during our SSR time. While picture books are amazing to read, they won't count for this challenge. Check out their challenge sheet in their binder!
