Esther F Garrison School for the Arts News You Can Use
From the Principal's Desk
This is Principal Parks with news you can use. Welcome back to Week 31 of learning at Esther F Garrison School for the Arts where creativity and critical thinking prepare our students for 21st century living! We are excited to finish this year out strong!
Happy Easter to you and your families! Before we left for the break, teachers took a moment to hunt for eggs at the end of the day,. Please take a few minutes to view some of the pictures. It is as important to ensure the social and mental well being of our teachers. IT is important to have fun and we did.
Please note that school will resume with Cohort A on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the next two weeks. Cohort B will return on Thursday and Friday. We are excited to welcome our virtual as well as in person students back and hope you were able to have some down time, some family time over the break.
School begins at 7:40 each day. Gates close at 7:35 so that students can be in their seats with their breakfast to start the day.
Save the Date for STEAM Night April 8. You will receive the link from your homeroom teacher. We look forward to you joining us.
Please continue to monitor the Garrison website and review the Parent Newsletters for announcements and school procedures. It is the expectation that all of our children are logging in each day and that teachers are being contacted if there are concerns. Working together will help to mitigate learning loss for our students. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out via email or contact the school. We are here to support you! Thank you again!
If there is information that you would like added to the newsletter, please feel free to email me at aysha.parks@sccpss.com . It is important to us to cover all updates and announcements that are useful to our students and parents/guardians.
Our word for this week is Strategy. Strategy is a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim. Working together to ensure student success requires a plan of action. Checking in with your teachers, encouraging your student and understanding where they are emotionally and mentally is just a start to this plan.
We are Team Garrison with One Goal: Student Achievement! We are “Gator” Ready and "Gator" Proud and we are Gators who know the importance of Strategy! Enjoy the SMORE!

Please enjoy the selection, Ella: Sing!

GNN - Garrison News Network
GNN - Garrison News Network
What is GNN? GNN is an acronym for Garrison News Network. GNN is a student led school club open to middle school students who produce a weekly news broadcast for the whole school.
What does a GNN broadcast entail? A GNN Broadcast is like producing a mini performance every week.
Students meet every Wednesday “after school” to discuss duties and responsibilities for the broadcast that will air in the following week.
After determining roles and responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Producer, Braidyn R, and the Production Director, Reilly B, the student writers for that week begin writing the script.
On Friday the script is edited by the Content Editor, Jada B and Mrs. Lanier.
The following Monday, Mrs. Ali and the assigned anchors for the week record the bulk of the show.
By Tuesday all special features are due.
We’re back at Wednesday - we meet to plan, prepare, and find out assignments for the next broadcast in the following week.
On Thursday all of the clips are edited together by Ms. Ali.
Then on Friday the weekly broadcast is emailed to teachers for them to show students during class time or to post in their class newsletters and on itsLearning start pages.
Who is in GNN? Currently GNN consists of ANY interested 7th & 8th grade students, however we are currently looking for any interested 6th grade students to join the team. (click here to fill out the GNN interest survey - GNN Interest Survey for 6th graders - deadline to submit interest form is Friday, 3/19 @ 4 pm.)
Quick Facts about GNN productions this year:
We have produced 19 broadcasts since our first one on October 5th.
We have featured student videos, special features completely conceived by students, school-wide student achievements, and Garrison celebrations.
We have hosted 2 successful Logo contests featuring student work.
We LOVE to include videos of our students reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the Garrison Gator Pledge.
Anyone from ANY art major area can be a member of our team. After all we are Stronger Together.
This 20-21 season of GNN has been a blast to produce and a new and exciting endeavor as we have been able to reach beyond the broadcast basics and share our creative side with not only the school, but also family and friends.
