On Wednesday, November 11 we celebrate and honor American Veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. On this day we honor and thank Ms. Kransberger for her service to our country. There is no school on Wednesday, November 11th.


On Thursday, November 12th, we will have a virtual tour for those interested in getting to know more about all that Webster has to offer. Please spread the word to friends and family that are looking to apply through open enrollment.

THE WEBSTER FALL PTA FUNDRAISER IS HERE!!

Armenian Club

Ms. Sevani wishes to start an Armenian club open to all students. The Armenian club will be designed to teach, promote, and continue the wealth of the Armenian history by introducing students to the following: culture, arts, music, dance, literature, science and the contributions Armenians have made to modern society. 2021-2022 Open Enrollment for Sibling and Priority Application Period begins October 26th!

2021-2022 Open Enrollment-School Choice Three Weeks Only: Sibling & Priority Application Period October 26-November 13, 2020. Sibling & Priority Application Period takes place online: www.pusd.us/openenrollment.


Applications must be completed by 4 p.m. on Friday, November 13—no exceptions. Once Sibling/Priority application is submitted, the school staff will verify eligibility. Staff will then notify the family of eligibility status with instructions regarding registration process for the 2021-22 school year.


Once a family completes Sibling/Priority registration, their child is pre-enrolled for the 2021-22 school year and may not participate in any other phase of Open Enrollment-School Choice.


Families who miss the Sibling/Priority Application Period may apply during lottery phases of Open Enrollment-School Choice.


Open Enrollment-School Choice priority registration is for: Siblings. Pre-enrollment is offered to brothers and sisters residing at the same address of a child currently attending a PUSD school that is not the school of residence. To qualify, siblings must attend the same school together.


Documents required to complete registration process:

Birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate, immigration certificate, bible record

Proof of current immunizations

Proof of parent/guardian rent/ownership within PUSD boundaries: Deed of trust; Property tax bill; Lease agreement; Rental agreement with recent payment receipt; Recent utility bill—gas, water or electric—in the parent/guardian name.

Restaurant Nights - Attend our monthly restaurant nights to get a break from cooking and support Webster PTA.

If you are making matching gifts through an employer, please let them know that they must provide PEF's information to their employer in order for us to confirm their gift.


Box Tops - Box Tops can still be clipped and put into an envelope or ziplock bag and turned into the school in the Box Tops box provided under the shade structure at the drive-thru. You can also upload the virtual version off your receipt. The app is called “Box Tops”. Select Webster as your school of choice and follow the instructions to set up an account to get credit. 2019-2020 Yearbooks

Thank you for coming by to purchase or pick up your yearbooks. If you prepaid, but have not picked up the 2019-2020 yearbook, please email Esvin Garcia to schedule a pick up. This is for prepaid only. We do not have extra copies at the school site and will not be accept any money. If you would like to purchase a yearbook, contact websterptapresident@gmail.com.

Attendance

Attendance continues to be extremely important. California compulsory education law requires everyone between the ages of six and eighteen years of age to attend school. We are in the process of sending out truancy letters. If you receive a letter and need to clear absences, contact Ms. de Abrego-Paz at deabregopaz.frances@pusd.us. There is a limited time in which you may clear absences. Three or more consecutive absences require a doctor's note. If you receive a second letter, you will be required to have a conference with Mrs. Forrest and sign an attendance agreement. The next step is to go before the PUSD School Attendance Review Board (SARB).

Measure O

Measure O


The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education has placed Measure O, a general obligation bond, on the November 3 presidential election ballot. If approved by voters, Measure O will authorize $516.3 million to improve our schools.


Vote-by-mail ballots must be postmarked by Nov. 3, 2020.

Measure O will:

  • Improve Student access to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) courses throughout the District
  • Increase student access to computers and modern classroom technology
  • Replace aging plumbing systems and roofs
  • Measure O’s estimated average annual tax rate is less than 4c per $100 of assessed valuation while bonds are outstanding

3rd Grade Grab and Grow Program

The PUSD Farm to School program is partnering with the Huntington Botanical Garden, City of Hope, PUSD Food Services department, and Pasadena Education Foundation Volunteer program to continue the effort of providing our third grade students with hands-on learning in our remote learning environment through the Grab N Grow Program.



With the Grab N Grow Program, our third grade students will be able to grow plants at home. PUSD Master Gardener, Jill McArthur, will bring the seed to table life cycle experience to our students at home. She has designed a hands-on learning experience through the “Grab n Grow” Kit. Each kit contains bean seeds, soil, a container, a ruler, a small hand lens, and a plant observation journal.

Parent Leader for the Arts at Webster

Please let Mrs. Forrest know if you are interested in being a parent leader for the arts for Webster. A parent leader does the following:

  • Serves as a representative for DAT/CAT meetings

  • Supports communication of arts events to all stakeholders

  • Advocates for arts education priorities for your site and the district

Pasadena LEARNs

PasadenaLEARNs is partnering with AfterSchool Adventures to provide in-person programs for PUSD students in grades K-8! Programs begin Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Spaces are limited! Participating students will be provided with supervision, basic academic support, and enrichment activities for during their regular day of online instruction.

PasadenaLEARNs hours are 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday-Friday. LEARNs programs will operate at all PUSD elementary and middle schools. Program fees may apply.

AfterSchool Adventures hours are 1 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at the following schools: Don Benito, Field, Hamilton, Jackson, Longfellow, Madison, McKinley, Norma Coombs, San Rafael, WAES, Webster, and Willard. Registration fees may apply. Students must be enrolled in LEARNs to participate.

  • Must wear a mask in order to get items

Online Class Meetings

Most students will access WebEx through their Canvas course.


Some students will meet teachers using Google Meet through PUSD Bookmarks in top left corner PUSD APPS (Clever) Teachers will have provided the nickname to join the meeting.


If technology is not cooperating when trying to join a class meeting, please email the teacher to let him or her know that the student was unable to join by the end of the school day, if possible. Email contact will prevent attendance issues.

Clearing Chromebook Cache and Cookies

Last week, many were receiving repeated messages to sign in. At this point you may need to clear the Chromebook Cache and Cookies.


Here are the steps:


  1. On your computer, open Chrome.
  2. At the top-right, click More .
  3. Click More tools Clear browsing data.
  4. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  5. Next to 'Cookies and other site data' and 'Cached images and files', tick the boxes.
  6. Click Clear data.

Chromebook Updates

1) Log in to the Chromebook using your student's PUSD login.


2) At the far right of the top of the browser are three dots in a vertical line. Click on the three dots, select Help and then About Google Chrome


3) Click on Check for Updates. It will either tell you that it's up to date or it will start downloading an update. This will take a few minutes. It will require you to restart the Chromebook.


4) You need to keep repeating these two steps until it reports that the Chromebook is up to date.


Lastly, please make sure that Chromebooks are Shut Down each night. This is not just closing the Chromebook or just logging off. The Chromebook must shut down; turned off completely.

2020-2021 PUSD School Opening Guide

Breakfast and Lunch Curbside Pick-up

The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Food & Nutrition Services program will provide an opportunity for families to drive through and pick up meals for the children in the family, at all of the PUSD school sites.


Starting Monday, August 17, 2020 the following schools will provide a breakfast and lunch for the day. Meals will be served between 9 am – 12 noon, Monday – Friday, in the parking lot or bus

lane at each school site. Please stay in your car and meals will be passed to you.


This program will be solely for the pick-up of meals and meals will not be consumed on site. This

year all the PUSD schools qualify for the Community Eligibility Program (CEP) which means all

students eat at “No Charge” for their meals! Our Food & Nutrition Services has gone

paperless, so all the menus can be found on the Website or on the menu boards at each curbside

pick-up.


Families can now pick-up all the meals they need at any school site. Meaning if a family has

multiple children at multiple school sites, they only need to stop at 1 school curbside of their choice and pick up all the meals they need. It is the goal of the Food and Nutrition Department to make meals as accessible as possible for families. During this time, food is the last thing our families need to worry about.


Starting August 31 st through September 7 th the Food Service Department will be releasing a parent survey asking if the meal times and locations are working for families. It is extremely important to get everyone’s feedback to be able to continue to provide all families with the best service possible.

Parent Portal

It is necessary that the school has accurate contact information, including a working email. You can update all important contact information on the parent portal. Aeries Parent Portal is a wonderful resource that all parents need to sign up for in order to access student attendance, grades, and teacher information to name a few. If you do not yet have an Aeries Parent Portal account, you can go to https://www.pusd.us/Page/6203 and follow the instructions to create an account. Please make sure you have set up your account before school starts so you know what class your child has been assigned to for the 2020-2021 school year.


In our commitment to take the appropriate measures to protect all student information and privacy, we are making changes to the requirements for all passwords within Aeries student, parent, and staff portal accounts.


Beginning the week of June 29, 2020, parent and student portal account users should have received an email from DoNotReply@pusd.us that will provide you with a link and instructions on how to update your Aeries portal password. Listed below are the minimum requirements for your new password:

  • A minimum of twelve characters
  • Change password every twelve months

Tax Deductible Giving through Webster's Annual Fund


Daniel Webster Elementary School has been honored as a California Distinguished School. Great teachers, strong leadership, and parent involvement make Daniel Webster a great school to send our children.

In addition to the great education our students receive, they are also provided with various opportunities to participate in our music and arts activities. We're asking for your support to continue this legacy by donating to the Daniel Webster Annual Fund and help us reach our goal of $50,000.

These funds will be used to financially support our music and arts programs, and to support the instructional goals set forth by the School Site Council
We would like to see every family donate at least $1.00 per week ($50 for the school year) for each child they have enrolled at Daniel Webster.

Think of it as donating less than the cost of a weekly cup of coffee or soft drink to help ensure that your child receives a high quality education.


If you can donate more, we would encourage you to donate towards our Giving Tree. We have various levels of donations:

Silver - $200
Gold - $300
VIP - $500 or more
