Ripon Cathedral School Update

Week ending Friday 1st February 2019

Our Christingle Service

Big picture

The Light of the World

Canon Ailsa and Reverend Caitlin led us in a memorable service in the Cathedral on Monday evening. We were delighted that nearly all the children were able to stay behind after school to enjoy a jacket potato (thanks to Sally the cook!) and some time with their classmates and that so many friends and family members joined us in the Cathedral for the service itself. We were proud of how clearly the children could explain the elements of the Christingle; it helped us all to think about Jesus being the light of the world and how we have to shine for him too.

Top School in a 30 mile radius!

Times Tables Rockstars

It's been great to see how enthusiastic all the children are to use Times Tables Rockstars. Mrs Beckett, our maths lead teacher, was excited to find out that we have the highest score in our area! Keep it up!

Online Safety Workshop for Parents

Please let us know if you are intending to come to the NSPCC's workshop for parents at 2.20pm in school on Wednesday 6th February, thank you.

The Big Sing Tuesday 12th February

We will be walking up to the Cathedral with our Year 1 and 2 children at 1.30pm, then the performance will be from 2-2.30pm. It is a free event and family/friends are warmly invited to attend. It will be quite informal and more about the opportunity of enjoying singing together with a large group of children, as opposed to a 'polished' performance! Afterwards we will take the children back to school, so they can be collected as normal at 3.10pm.

Learning at Home Letters

All teachers send home a weekly learning letter (Mondays EYFS, Wednesdays Year 1, Fridays for all other year groups). We would love some feedback on how useful you find these letters - and also to remind you to look out for them if your child is not great at handing over letters! Would you prefer to receive the letter by email, as this is something we might arrange? Do you use the suggested extension ideas to continue learning at home? Please let your child's class teacher know at your teacher-parent appointment, thank you.

Spring Term Parent Teacher Appointments

We will be holding our parent teacher appointments on Wednesday 13th and Friday 15th February. We will send home the children's books on Friday 8th February so you can have a good look through them. You may have some questions for the teacher based on what you see. There will not be a pupil report this half term.

As Friday 15th February is a training and appointment day, school is not open for children. However, we will run Oscar's from 8am to 5.15pm. Please note that we were fully booked on the training day in October and had to turn away everyone who arrived without booking. If you did not receive the booking email which was sent on Tuesday and think you may require Oscar's, please contact Mrs Rich in the office.

Maximising our Learning!

It is great to see so many children getting into school and starting their learning at 8.45am. Since Monday we have been closing doors at our official start time of 8.55am, after this time children will need to enter via the main office. Many thanks for your continued support.

Oscar's

On Friday 15th February, Oscar's will be open 8am to 5.15pm (£20 full day, £15 half day). Places are limited to 30, and we already have 24 children booked in, so please be sure to reserve your spot now!

It will not be possible for us to have a holiday club in the February half term holidays, but we are looking to open for a couple of days in the Easter holiday. This has yet to be finalised, so we will confirm as soon as possible.

Message from the Friends

We have arranged a Bag2School collection for 9am on Monday 4th February. Please fill the bags we sent out on Tuesday and bring them along to school on Monday morning. Any bin bag will do if you have more than one sack full or have misplaced your first bag! Please make sure bags are by the cycle rack at the front of school by 9am on Monday, thank you.

Friends' meeting - open to all - next Wednesday evening, 6th February, from 7pm in the One Eyed Rat. The meeting will discuss our achievements so far - what have we done, how much have we raised? Then we'll gather ideas for what we're going to to do this term and think about events coming up in the rest of the school year. A message on our Facebook page to let us know if you're coming would be great, thanks.

After the meeting, watch this space for our announcements about future events.
