Quarter 2 Open House

Wednesday, Dec. 12th, 5:30-7pm

66 Columbus Street, CHarleston, SC

We hope you are able to visit us at the Open House. We'll start the evening in the student's homeroom class, and then move through the student's schedule.

Each period will be "drop-in" style without a formal presentation to allow families and students to have time to chat with teachers casually.

If you would like to schedule a formal parent-teacher conference, please call the office, and we'll be happy to schedule time for a deeper conversation with your student's teachers.

RSVPs are enabled for this event.

PTA Information

The PTA Candy Sales are ongoing. Please see the flyer below and send back the signed permission slip (attached). There are several prizes for students who sell candy.

Community Service Club - Beach Sweep

Are you interested in cleaning up our local beaches? Do you want to earn Community Service hours for your AVID class?

The Community Service Club is hosting a Beach Sweep "Meet-Up" at Sullivan's Island on Saturday, December 15. If you're attending, please let the club know here.

Academic Probation

We would like families to know that the AVID Teachers will begin meeting with individual students next week to develop probation contracts, if necessary.

We develop our contracts based upon student performance at the interim reports and report cards for Q1 and Q3. Therefore, if your student is placed on a contact, it is because their grade (either Q2 interim or Semester 1) was lower than a 70.

We recognize that at many schools, probation serves as a "warning". That is not the intent of a contract at ECHS. Contracts are designed to initiate a conversation between the student and their AVID teacher about the changes necessary to experience success. Contracts are about providing the necessary support and awareness to increase a student's likelihood of success.

At ECHS a contract is the mechanism by which we move forward with some very structured supports for each student. Once a student is on probation, we require that they seek extra help during lunch twice per week, and we pull the student during the second half of their AVID class to get support in Academic Lab twice a week. Collectively, that represents about 2.5 extra hours of small-group support each week. We also have the student conference with their AVID teacher once each week and report of their own progress. Furthermore, if a student does not demonstrate completion of the action steps listed above, we'll provide additional time on Fridays during "Academic Support Club".

It is our hope that over time, students at ECHS will begin to see Probation as intensive support that feels like care and concern, and not a negative action.

If you have any bus-related complaints throughout the year, please use this link to log your complaint. This is the way that CCSD tracks bus issues and shares them with Durham. I have found that when we use this form, there is generally a swift response.

Early College High School will develop intellectually confident and independent people who seize opportunity to continually better themselves, their communities, and the world.
