Leadership Message
When Ainsley Wong brought her proposal for a water drinking station into Mr. Marshall and Mrs. Boehm, she believed that she could make a difference and she did! Yesterday, our JV kids participated and raised the funds for the water station at our Walk for Water. Along with our PSC and amazing parent volunteers, our students made it happen! Last Spring, a young representative from our School Spirit team pitched the team’s plan to PSC for a Buddy Bench. This week, the base for the bench was completed in our playground!
Creating spaces and places where our students believe in themselves, strive to make a difference, and see that they can share their gifts and talents with the world is our hope for our JV kids! Every day we explore numeracy and literacy, we dive into science concepts, learn the basic facts, paint, write, and so many more much needed academic skills but we also…
-invite Jesus into our lives
every day and learn what it means to be a true child of God and brothers and sisters to our classmates
-discover that we can do hard things, even when it feels like we cannot
-work through playground struggles and learn empathy and compassion in the contexts of relationships
-persevere
-see that our unique gifts truly do matter and make a difference
-learn that other people also have much to offer
-celebrate growth and learning every day
Something that other reports will not show but parents and teachers recognize is the beaming face of one of our students who realized they can do something today that yesterday was a challenge. The quiet tears of pride that we are seeing from our parents during conversations about how much their child has grown over the year is one of the marks of success. Thank-you parents for the opportunity to walk with your children, see their gifts unfold, and watch as they make a difference in our world! It is truly a blessing and honour!
JV Walk for Water
The PSC is now going to work with the administration to get the water bottle filling station installed by September 2017. Keep a look out for it next school year.
Thank-you all again for your support, and have a safe and wonderful summer!
God Bless,

Ukrainian Corner
Слава Ісусу Христу,
Last two weeks have been very busy for our Ukrainian Bilingual students in 4C and 4H.
On Friday, June 2nd, grades 4C and 4H went to St. Martin Elementary school in Edmonton. The idea for this visit was put forward by the principal of St. Martin Elementary school, Walter Kowalchyk. The visit began with an ice breaker called "Find someone who..." where all students had a chance to get to know the students from the opposite school. Everyone needed to communicate in Ukrainian to find the answers to the questions. For lunch, Grade 5 students from St. Martin school prepared a surprise hot dog lunch. During the lunch recess, the principal of St. Martin school was the referee for a massive soccer game between the Grade 4 classes of both schools.
After recess, the students were separated into different groups and rotated between three different stations set up in the school. This included dance class, board games and cup stacking games. An hour before our departure, 4C and 4H students gave an interesting presentation about the different leadership teams in our school and taught the St. Martin students a dance to the song "Yes God".This was an energetic and positive visit. We believe that the meeting of the Grade 4 students from St. Martin and our school will become a proud yearly tradition between the two schools. We would like to thank the BUCPS for covering the cost of transportation. Дякуємо!
On Saturday, June 3th, our students in 4C and 4H participated in a 4-8-11 celebration at St. Theresa school. They celebrated their commitment to learn their Ukrainian language, culture and traditions with their families and friends. Many special guests were in attendance. The students were singing two songs in Ukrainian during the celebration. Congratulations to them all. Good luck at St. Theresa next year!
Today, the students in 4C and 4H participated in a Bandura presentation with Professor Andrij Hornyatkevych. Bandura is a very popular Ukrainian musical instruments.Musicians who play the bandura are referred to as bandurists. In the 19th – early 20th century traditional bandura players, often blind, were referred to as kobzars. Our students will have an opportunity to take bandura lessons with Professor Andrij at St. Theresa school next year.

Chromebook Lease Reminder
Just a reminder to our current Grade 4 students that are already leasing a Chromebook this year - if you wish to continue to lease for Grade 5, please log in to your Powerschool Parent Account to opt in to continue to lease for the 2017-2018 school year. If you do not opt in again, it is assumed you do not wish to lease again next year, and your child will not have a Chromebook for next year. As a result parents will need to look at purchasing one for their child.
Those that did not lease this year have been provided information about purchasing a device through Staples which includes full technology support.
To view this information, please click on the link below:
https://www.eics.ab.ca/programs/learning-technologies
Beginning June 26th, Grade 4 teachers will collect Chromebooks from those students that will not be leasing in Grade 5. Please make sure you return the Chromebook and charging cord.
Grade 4 students that have opted in to lease for the fall are able to keep their Chromebooks over the summer.
Our current Grade 3 parents are still able to log in to the Powerschool parent account if you wish to lease for Grade 4. To ensure we have enough Chromebooks on hand in September, please choose to lease no later than Friday June 16th.
Chromebooks will be handed out to students in September, and lease amounts will be added to fee statements at the end of September.
