GMS Principal's Corner

May 8, 2022

Dear Galvin Families,

This week was a special opportunity to honor and recognize our outstanding and dedicated teachers/staff during Teacher Appreciation Week! We welcomed staff back on Monday morning with a red carpet walk of fame as each teacher/staff member had a star in their honor and received a gift.

Special thanks to the GMS CAPT for hosting a fabulous teacher/staff appreciation lunch on Wednesday and to all parents who donated and volunteered their time. CAPT also provided many other items to the faculty.

Our teachers and staff work hard all year and we are grateful for everything they do each and every day on behalf of our student and families.

Art Bulletin Board

May is Art month for the Canton Public Schools! The pictures below are examples of outstanding student artwork representing 6th, 7th, and 8th grade GMS artists. We are very proud of our student artists.

7th grade roller coasters

Team Grizzlies and Sharks were tasked with designing a roller coaster that would keep their passengers (two different sized marbles) on the tracks while identifying potential and kinetic energy as well as other energy transformations.

GMS Summer Scholars

At Galvin Middle School, our program will target students entering grades 7 and 8 who did not make sufficient progress during the school year to pass one or more core academic courses and incoming grade 6 students who have identified academic and transition support needs. This program will allow them the opportunity to revisit the power standards in ELA, math, science and social studies with the goal of meeting the standards necessary to move on to the next grade with the foundation necessary for success next year.

GMS Summer Scholars program will run from July 18th- August 11th

Monday through Thursday from 8am-11am at GMS.

Students who are chosen to participate in the GMS Summer Scholars program will engage in a Project Based Learning experience called "Challenges." This PBL unit will be based on the essential question: How do people develop resilience when faced with challenges? Students will read two novels, engage in math centers, and create a final product that shows their learning. More information will be coming soon.

Bus Registration for 2022-23 is Open!

Registration for bus transportation is now open for the 2022 - 2023 school year! Families should have received emails with a link to register, and anyone that did not is encouraged to reach out to our transportation coordinator, Mrs. Brett McCloud (

Registration will remain open until May 20.

Chromebooks: Important Reminder

It is our students' responsibility to bring their charged Chromebook to school with them each day. We have a very limited number of loaners available and are using those to first support students who's Chromebooks aren't working. The Chromebook is an essential, daily, school supply. Please help your child come up with a process that allows them to have their device ready for school each day. Thank you.
