Reading Wisdom from Ms. DelVecchio's Class
In their current reading unit students were reminded of their important jobs as readers and as they review the strategies already learned, they are being challenged to take control of their own reading - and BE THE BOSS!
This song helps remind them to self-monitor and employ a variety of strategies from their "tool box" when they get stuck. When one of these tools doesn't work, they are expected to navigate the text and decide what other strategy would be more useful.
Sending Love to the Senior Center
First graders read the book "Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch" and learned how special it is to spread love and happiness to everyone. To spread their love and happiness, first graders made Valentine's placemats and cards for the South Windsor Senior Centers Valentine's Day luncheon on February 14th!
Read Across America
Read Across America is the largest celebration of reading in our country. Read Across America Day, on March 2, focuses on motivating children to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.
We will be celebrating Read Across America at Eli Terry next week by inviting parents and community members to be guest readers in our classrooms! We look forward to seeing and hearing from many of you as we celebrate the wonderful world of reading.
If you would like more information, please reach out to your child's classroom teacher.
