Literacy
Reading- This week we read the myth King Midas and the Golden Touch. During small group time, we answered questions as we retold the story. We also learned about idioms for figurative language. Next week, we will not have Daily 5, so we will work on a review activity for reading.
*** On Tuesday, December 8th, we will have a reading test over folktales. This will include fairy tales, fables, legends, and myths.
Writing- We read "If you give..." books and then wrote our own "If you give..." story to demonstrate examples of cause-and-effect scenarios. Next week, we will work continue to practice cause-and-effect scenarios and problem-and-solution scenarios.
Grammar- We defined pronouns this week and labeled parts of speech that we've covered thus far (subject nouns, verb, adjectives, adverbs, and pronouns). Next week, we will continue to work on correcting sentences (capitalization and punctuation), and then label the parts of speech.
Math
We worked on place values this week, covering the ten-thousands place and the millions place. We are continuing to work with graphs and maps as well. We need to practice conversions (minutes to hours, hours to days, days to years, etc.).
We will continue to learn and work more on decimals, place value, and measurement in the following weeks.
As always, we will take a multiplication quiz Tuesday/Thursday. Students need to miss no more than 2 to move to the next set. If they miss 3 or more they will retake the quiz again.
We will take the tests in the following order: 2, 10, 3, 11, 4, 5, 6, 9, 7, 8, and 12.

Specialties Update
Students are working on their slides here at school on Friday afternoons. Please make sure that you are inserting pictures at home. Students should know how to find their presentation in Google Slides.
We are also almost finished with our binders. Next week students will be getting a checklist of all pages that have been assigned with the exception of the last four. Students are to see what pages they don't have complete. If they are missing a page they are to highlight the missing page and return the checklist back to me before January 4th. I will then make additional copies.
A table of contents will be sent home at the beginning of January for student to organize their binder. The complete and organized binder will be due to me on January 13th.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
