Friday Flyer
Second Grade
Dear Parents,
It was lovely to spend time with grandparents and special friends last week! The children created beautiful paper cakes with them. The children presented "two word" poems about their guests, who in turn wrote poems about the children.
This week, we read the book Tar Beach by Faith Ringgold. We discussed some places we would like to see if we had the ability to fly. We are now in the beginning stages of creating a class paper quilt to show different areas of the world we would like to explore and call our own.
In math, we are learning how to organize information in number stories by using the change diagram and the parts-and-total diagram. We are also continuing to review coins, telling time, and reading temperature on a thermometer.
We had a Writers' Celebration this week to mark the completion of our personal narratives. We are so proud of our students!
Finally, we look forward to seeing many of you at our class holiday party next Tuesday at 9:00 am. We will be decorating onesies for the babies at Mary's Center. If you have not yet signed up to volunteer and would like to join us, please send us an email.
Questions:
- What are you illustrating for the Tar Beach quilt?
- A hot dog costs 45 cents. An orange costs 25 cents. What is the total cost?
- Why was cedar the prized wood in the Pacific Northwest?
Thanks,
Emilia and Rachel
