Summer Edition I

Welcome Back!

My name is Eric Holt, and I am the Principal of Lago Vista Middle School. We are busy getting prepared for your students, and I'm sure the students are super excited to see us again!

For our new families, please know that we are dedicated to making the school year an amazing experience for your students. We also know there may be a few bumps in the road, and we pride ourselves as excellent problem solvers, so if you need anything, we are here to help.

I will send this newsletter out each week, so I hope this is a great source of information for you throughout the year.

I wanted to share some upcoming dates before school, and to welcome everyone to the 2023/24 school year!

Meet The Teacher Night!

Please join us for Meet The Teacher Night on Monday, August 14th from 5:30 - 7:00. There will be a 6th Parent/New Family Meeting at 5:30 in the cafeteria...all other families are free to pick up their schedules and come check out the new addition!

6th Grade schedules will be available in the lower gym after the meeting(about 5:45), 7th and 8th Grade schedules will be handed out in the Upper Gym starting at 5:30.

There will be a Meet The Coaches Football Meeting at 5:00 PM, and a Girls Athletics Meeting at 7:00 PM. Both meetings will be in the Upper Gym. Coach Janson will be available during Meet The Teacher Night to answer questions about Athletics and to purchase uniforms if needed.

Vaping = DAEP

One significant change coming out of the Legislative session this year is that any student who is either using or in possesion of an e-cigarette(vape) of any type is an automatic DAEP(Disciplinary Alternative Education Placement) sentence.

HB 114 makes offenses involving the possession and/or or use of vapes a mandatory DAEP offense. School districts will now be required to place all students who are caught in possession and/or or using vapes (of any kind – not just those with drugs) into their DAEP.

Please share this with your children - it's just not worth it!

Did you move?

If you moved over the summer, please update your address and telephone number in Parent Portal. If you're not sure how to do this, you can also email Sue Kunze in the front office at skunze@lagovistaisd.net

Thank you!

Bus Questions?

If you have questions about the bus, please contact our Transportation Director Joe Monds at wmonds@lagovistaisd.net and he will be more than happy to help you out!

Pick Up? Drop off?

More detailed information about pick up and drop off will be in the next newsletter, but if you were here last year, it hasn't changed!
