Talley Street Update
August 10, 2020
Update from the Principal
Dear Talley Street Community,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! We are only one week away from the start of school! We are so excited to see all of our students back virtually! Talley’s faculty and staff have been working hard in preparation for the return of students. This week will be busy! On Tuesday and Thursday, we will be distributing Chromebooks for the students who need them. The demand has been great so we are continually adding more slots. Please reach out to me if you continue having difficulty finding an open slot. Wednesday will be our welcome back parade as well as curriculum material distribution. The schedule is below. Families with children in multiple grade levels may choose one time period to attend. Please remember to have an index card with your child’s name, grade level, and homeroom teacher written on it. This will help us in knowing which students still need materials. If you are unable to come on Wednesday, reach out to me directly. We can schedule another time for you to come by the school. Virtual Meet and Greets will be this Friday. This afternoon, teachers will begin sending out sign up sheets for students and parents to schedule a time to meet their teachers. The purpose of the Meet and Greet is for the students and their families to see their teacher “live.” There will not be enough time for many questions; However, teachers will provide another avenue for parents to get their questions answered.
(Grade level teachers may not be available during this time slot)
Attached to the eBlast is a virtual tour of the school. The video was made recently so you will be able to see that work is continuing in preparation for when and if we are able to open in a face to face setting. So please excuse our dust! We wanted to go ahead and send out a video so our rising 3rd graders and new students can see what their new school looks like.
I want to thank everyone for their support! I hope to see everyone at the parade. Enjoy the last week of summer! Go Tigers!
Girls on the Run
At Girls on the Run, we believe every girl deserves a place to grow, connect and shine. Our proven curriculum blends physical activity with social-emotional skill development that enables girls to manage whatever comes their way. In today's unpredictable world, the strategies learned at girls on run are more important than ever. That is why we have designed our programs this fall to seamlessly transition in and out of in-person and virtual lessons to ensure that we continue to be a safe and inclusive place where every girl can thrive.
A virtual curriculum has been created that mirrors the in person curriculum, and some changes have been made in order to accommodate for the virtual experience. Girls will begin practice in a virtual setting with their coaches and teammates synchronously, and finish “off-screen” on their own. Girls on the Run piloted the virtual program over the summer with positive results and feedback. For more information about the virtual program, click here or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
As the season progresses, there may be an opportunity for teams to come together depending on the status of school reopenings. Regardless, Talley will offer at least one Full Virtual team that will remain virtual for families who are uncomfortable with in person practice at any time this season. When you register, please make sure to choose the Full Virtual or Flex Team to indicate your preferences.
If you are interested in virtually coaching this season, please email email@example.com.
More about Girls on the Run: Girls on the Run inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum, which creatively integrates running. At Girls on the Run we inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind. Trained coaches lead small teams through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
