Corron Mission Statement:
From the Principal:
Corron families,
This school year we will continue our work focused on social-emotional learning with students. Last year we implemented Morning Meetings across the building, focused on our SEL goal:
By May 2019, all students will identify what causes anxiety and personal conflict. They will also identify 2-3 coping strategies for both of those emotions.
Our Building Instructional Leadership team will be using the information we collected from working with students last year to adjust the goal for this year. About 94% of our students last year were able to identify 2 or more coping strategies that they feel comfortable using when they are feeling anxious. For the next few weeks, our students and teachers will be working on practicing the top 5 calming strategies that our students identified last Spring. Below is the list. I will be sharing descriptions of each of these over the next few newsletters.
Belly Breaths
Squeeze a Lemon
Positive Self-Talk
Talk to Someone
Move
These are definitely strategies that can be used anywhere (and by anyone - young or old!), so be sure to ask your child about how they use them and what their favorite strategies are.
Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!
