Kindergarten Registration

If you have a child who will turn 4 by December 31, 2015, you can register them for Kindergarten to start in September. Please consider doing this at your earliest convenience as it helps us to plan for next year. You will need a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunization record or we can take a copy for you!
At Loughborough we also have before and after school care through Frontenac County Community Childcare. You can make inquiries there about available places for next year. Stay tuned for more information regarding our Welcome to Kindergarten evening in May.

Class Lists

Later in the spring we will start the process of preparing class lists for September 2015. We make decisions very carefully about where students should each be placed, attempting to balance classes considering such factors as gender, leadership, academic ability, special needs, and peer dynamics. Much time and thought goes into doing what we feel is right for students based on what we see everyday here at school. If you have questions or concerns about your child's placement for next year please don't hesitate to contact the office.

Spirit at LPS!

Every month we have spirit days at LPS. We'd like to thank Ms. Bates and Ms. Hamilton for helping to organize these for us!! This month our students had Backwards Day on the 1st, and can look forward to Hat Day on the 8th, Twin Day on the 15th, and PJ Day on the 29th!!

Earth Week

April is a month we focus on Environmental Awareness. This year we will have even more cause to celebrate with the addition of many new trees, a vegetable and flower garden as well as extensive limestone seating/play areas! Thanks to Parent Council, Green team, grants and community support for funding and help with our Schoolyard improvement projects!

During Earth week we will continue to raise funds through our annual SYDWAM (stuff you don't want anymore sale). Please begin sending in your gently used toys, puzzles and children's clothing to the library. Send your child with $1 per item on Wednesday, April 20th. All money raised will continue to support our yard improvements! Thanks so much to our Green Team for all their hard work!

Please check our website for further news from our Green Team!

LPS Wins Music Grant!

LPS is very pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $10,000 music grant from the Larry Gibson Estate, managed in part through the Limestone Learning Foundation. These funds will go toward enhancing the community building powers of the arts in our junior and intermediate grades. On the evening of April 13th staff from LPS will attend a ceremony where we will graciously accept our grant. Thanks so much to Alan MacDonald and Gillian McDonald for their hard work on this grant. This will be another wonderful learning opportunity for our students.

Get Involved at LPS!

With the coming of Spring means the start of many new sports and activities here at LPS. I'd like to thank our staff for the incredible amount of time they give to extra-curriculars. Right now our junior students are busy with boys and girls basketball, cross country running is happening for everyone, and next week we will organize intramural soccer and ultimate frisbee for our primary and junior students.

For those that have a talent to show off be sure to join us on the evening of May 10th as we celebrate all our students have to offer with this year's Talent Show. We have had an incredible showing of student support for this and thanks to some wonderful student leadership with regards to organization it should be a great event! Look for more information on this in the coming weeks.

Congrats to Ms. Chanook and Mr. MacDonald!!

We are thrilled to announce that two of our very own teachers are receiving Outstanding Service Awards from the Limestone District School Board this week!! Ms. Chanook and Mr. MacDonald were nominated by our Parent Council and both were selected as recipients. Both of these individuals do so much for our students here at LPS and our community at large each and every day! We are thrilled for both of them. Congrats!!

ONLINE MATH TOOLS

Are you looking for some fun math activities to do with your kids? If you are the Ministry of Education has developed MATHIES, a website designed to help develop an understanding of key math concepts throughout grades K-12. The website is a wonderful mix of games, activities, and interactive learning tools all designed to bring the fun to Math!! You can access the website here: http://oame.on.ca/mathies/index.html

STUDENT ELECTRONIC USE

Many of our classrooms have activities on a daily basis that involve the use of electronics. As such many families and students have made the decision to send personal electronics to school. Students who bring their own devices to school may only use them with permission from their teacher during instructional periods or breaks. When devices are not being used they must be stored in a safe place and are not to be taken out on the yard. Outdoor recess time at LPS should be used as active play time or an as opportunity to socialize with friends. Students are responsible for any equipment brought to school and the school is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
