Wolf Pup Weekly

Woodriver Issue #32 4/8/22

FROM PRINCIPAL GUY

Hello Wolf Pup parents!

Starting on Tuesday April, 12th our 5th and 6th grade students will be taking the new

Alaska Summative Assessment, called AK Star. These tests are given on computers

and will test students in language arts and math. Each content area is broken up

into two sections meaning it will take 4 days (roughly two hours each day) to

complete these assessments. The tests are untimed and students can take the entire

day if they want to complete the test. We will start with language arts on Tuesday

and Wednesday and complete the math portions on Thursday and Friday. 5th grade

students will also complete the Science test on Monday April 18th . 3rd and 4th graders

will start their AK STAR testing on April 19th and finish on April 22nd. They will follow the

same schedule as our 5th /6th graders, doing language arts first and math second.

These tests are extremely important for our school because they give us information

about how well our students are learning. We use the results of the tests to improve

instruction and look for gaps in student learning. Please remind students to take

their time on each problem and ensure they get a good night sleep before testing.

Thank you for your help and we are excited to see how well our students do on

these new assessments.

State Standardized Testing in April! Please mark your calendars:

Students in Grades 3-6 will participate in the statewide testing now called AK Star.

This online test is aligned with Alaska's standards and helps us assess how students are progressing in their learning. Testing covers English Language Arts and Mathematics. Also, only our 5th graders have an additional test in Science.

Testing is untimed and many students complete testing in the morning session. After the lunch/recess hour, students have more time to complete the test if they need it. Finally, you do have the parental right to refuse testing of your child and you can contact Mr. Guy, Principal, to discuss this option.

Grades 5 and 6 AK Star testing dates:

Tuesday, April 12 through Friday, April 15

(Tuesday and Wednesday are English Language Arts test sessions. Thursday and Friday are Math test sessions.)

Additional test for Grade 5 in Science: Monday, April 18

Grades 3 and 4 AK Star testing dates:

Tuesday April, 19 through Friday April, 22

(Tuesday and Wednesday are English Language Arts test sessions. Thursday and Friday are Math test sessions.)
