A Message From Mrs. Venghaus

Bear Branch Family,

Happy New Year and welcome to 2022!

8th graders will take the PSAT on Monday. Students received testing room assignments today. Both 7th and 8th grade will be on alternate bell schedules on Monday due to the PSAT. I have attached both schedules below. For those of you who bring lunch for you student, be sure to check the time changes.

Have your students mentioned Bear Bucks to you? Students can now earn Bear Bucks from teachers and staff members for a chance to win prizes. Students then turn these in during lunches and names will be drawn at the end of each month. Prizes have been ordered and we will soon have them on display for students to see. Please let me know if you are interested in donating a prize.

Mrs. Ebbeler is working on our yearbook. If you or your student would like to submit photos for the yearbook, please email them to Mrs.Ebbeler at She will do her best to get your pictures in the yearbook.

Bear Basketball

The 8B Boys Basketball team picked up a clutch overtime win on Thursday vs Schultz. With 1 second left in the 4th quarter, Edward Thome hit a clutch three-pointer to tie the game and force an overtime. From there, the Bears took care of business and finished off Schultz with a 37-39 win. Thome, with 10 points, was the offensive player of the game. Defensive players of the game were Jaden Cooper and Anthony Bergenholtz. The Bears improve to 2-2 in district and 3-3 on the season.

The 8A Boys Basketball team picked up a 46-39 win over Schultz led by a great team defensive effort from Joseph Solomon, Daniel Blackwell, Theo Marsh, Jess Folsom and Hudson Enyart. Joseph Solomon led the Bears in offense with 19 points. The Bears improve to 1-3 in district and 2-4 on the season.

7th B played a close game against Waller. The final score was 12-17. The defensive side of the ball was maintained by Joseph Rampolo with 6 steal and the offense was led by Kallum Jackson with 8 points.

7th A fell short to a very talented Shultz squad 47-25. Leading scorers were Banner Carlson and Cash Ferrell, and the defense was led by Cannon Combs and Aiden McFarland.

Lady Bear Basketball

7B lady bears ended the night with a win over Schultz. The girls came out strong and played hard all game. Offensive player of the game was London Keller with Alexis Davis, Kera Miller and Grace Christian adding points to the board. Defensive players were Rachel Bash and Frankie Cruz. Way to go ladies.

The 7A Lady Bears defeated Schultz Junior High Thursday night to win their second district game of the season. Leading scorer for the Lady Bears was Greer Morgan with Rylan Benignus, Addison Berry, and Peyton Huetter also putting points on the board. Defensively, Rylan Benignus lead in steals with Peyton Huetter leading in blocked shots. Congratulations on a hard fought game and coming out on top!

The Lady Bears 8th grade B team started the new year strong beating Schultz 43-6. It was a complete team effort as EVERYONE on the team scored. Leading the charge was Faith Funnell with 8 points and Meg Gordon with 6 points. Congrats Ladies!

The Lady Bears 8th grade A team dominated Schultz last night winning 50-25. Leading the charge was Neha Sasser with 14 points, Landry Pitcock with 12 points, and Stevie South with 11 points. It was an all around great team effort! Congrats on the win!

The Lady Bears will take on Oak Hills Junior High next week at home.

UIL Academics

UIL is an academic competition where students participate in a variety of academic skills tests and challenges against students from other schools. The 2022 UIL events will be held at Brenham Junior High in Brenham, Texas. We will take a bus together as a team from BBJH to Brenham Junior High after school on the day of each event. Once the event is over we will ride the bus together back as a team to BBJH. You may sign up to compete in up to 3 different events, The Speaking & Writing Event (April 5), The Academic Event #1 (April 26). Once you sign up you will need to start checking your email for a message about the events you have chosen and when and where to attend practices. After you have made the team you will receive the parent permission form and other event information from your coach.
