Middle College Update 5/12/2016
Hello, Students and Families!
We are in the home stretch! Next week is the last week of instruction and the following week is finals. Students at this point should be spending the time they need on studying for their finals and finishing up last projects, assignments and presentations.
Middle College finals will be on Tuesday and Wednesday of finals week.
All English finals (for both juniors and seniors) will be on Tuesday and all Social Studies finals will be on Wednesday. Thursday at 3 pm is our end-of-year celebration for our graduating seniors. Juniors will attend as well.
Chris should be emailing all families with instructions on returning college textbooks--but keep in mind all texts need to be returned by the end of finals week or the cost of the book may be charged to the credit card on record in the bookstore.
Juniors continuing in Middle College
I have now scheduled all juniors continuing into Middle College for all summer and fall courses. All my juniors got into ALL the classes we planned--with no one even on a waitlist! I'd prefer to not make changes to these schedules, though I understand under certain circumstances some changes may need to be requested. At this point, however, some classes will begin to close or have waitlists. Courses available HERE.
Seniors staying here and transferring
Seniors who will continue here by now should have completed the college application as if they are a first-time student and should have indicated that they are graduating from high school in June. They should have also made an appointment to meet with a college counselor to update their SEP (this ensure priority registration dates--meaning you're more likely to get into the classes you need). The SEP needs to be updated with a college counselor every semester to ensure priority registration. It's worth the 5-minute appointment.
Seniors headed to a four-year
This is a reminder for seniors moving on to request final transcripts from your home high school after June 10. This transcript must be received by colleges by July 1. Additionally, you must also have your Canada college transcript sent via your WebSmart account.

A Jump on Summer
Some friends and I took a pickling/fermenting class...all ready for summer farmer's markets.
Juniors should begin thinking about those college personal statement prompts over summer...fall gets pretty busy!
A Jump on Summer
Info for Summer/Next Year
The summer session is from June 13- July 21. Students need to keep in mind that in the summer the drop date comes very quickly--in some cases, the drop date is the first day of class. Make sure you notify me immediately if your plans change.
Students enrolling in online classes should check their my.smccd email accounts and WebAccess for the syllabus, course information, and materials.
A reminder for those taking summer classes: during summer tuition is waived, but families are responsible for the cost of the college textbooks. Let me know if the cost of books is an obstacle and we'll figure something out.
Our fall semester begins on Aug. 8. College classes begin the following week, on Aug 17, so those first few days we will have orientation, get books, and discuss the summer reading, I am Malala.
Counselors are assigned to students alphabetically by last name. For a few students on the cusp (students with last names beginning with "R"), keep in mind that if the alphabet shifts a bit you may have another counselor next year; however, each of us is always available to counsel students about anything at any time. The assigned counselor is mainly responsible for keeping track of graduation requirements and submitting schedules.
