Rushville Elementary School East Families,
The weeks are flying by! It was so nice to have students back in the building after Fall Break! I hope everyone has been able to stay warm! Just a reminder that we do go outside for recess each day! Please be sure that your student has a coat. If you are having trouble getting a coat, please let us know and we would be happy to help!
It is hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner. Staff and students are working hard and making great progress. Beginning on Monday, November 15, we will be taking NWEA. This is an assessment students take three times each year. It is important that students do their best so that we can see where they need additional assistance. Please talk to your child about doing his/her best. Our teachers have been working on setting goals with students as well.
Please remember to call the school office at 765-938-1616 to report your child absent before 9:00.
Don't forget to charge Chromebooks each night so they are ready to go for the school day!
Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, November 7, 2021! Don't forget to roll your clocks back one hour!
Have a great weekend!

Rush County School UPDATED Back to School Plan
UPDATED MASK/FACIAL COVERING REQUIREMENT PLAN

September 29, 2021
Dear RCS Families and Staff,
The RCS Board of Trustees has voted to extend the face covering/mask requirement through October 22nd. The decision was based on a recommendation from the Rush County Health Department and Rush County’s current status of high community spread. It is believed that progress is being made and this will get us through the current surge. Hopefully after Fall Break we can make an adjustment. The primary goal remains to keep students and staff healthy, in school on a daily basis, and minimize absenteeism due to contact tracing.
appreciate the cooperation from our students, families, and staff.
Sincerely,
Rush County Schools
Rush County School Back to School Plan
Opening of School Plan for Rush County Schools
July 2021
The goal for the 2021-2022 school year is to operate as normal as possible while continuing to keep students and staff safe and healthy. Several steps from last year’s plan will still be in place, however, the following changes are being made:
Masks
Due to continued high numbers of positive Covid cases in the county, the mask mandate for Rush County Schools has been extended to Friday, October 22. We appreciate your helping in keeping our students in school!
Masks on buses will be required per federal mandate at this time.
Social Distancing
Social Distancing-when possible in classrooms, and other areas.
Contact Tracing/Quarantining
Individuals who test positive or experience symptoms should stay home for a minimum of 10 days following the onset of symptoms or a positive test result.
When a positive case is discovered, we will still contact trace (for those within 3 feet for 15 minutes).
Two options will be available for quarantining:
A. Parents may wish to quarantine their child for 7 days if no symptoms appear, with precautions, and a negative test. Or 10 days with precautions, or 14 days without testing or precautions.
B. Individuals may attend school under the following circumstances:
- No symptoms appear
- Must wear a mask for 5 consecutive school days
- If symptoms do appear, the individual must stay home until symptoms are resolved and no fever for 48 hours without the use of fever reducing medication
- Those who are vaccinated do not need to quarantine but should monitor for symptoms and isolate if symptoms develop
We will continue to promote hand washing/sanitizing
Water fountains will be back on, cleaned frequently, and bottle fillers will be encouraged (we have some in each building)
Enhanced cleaning will be utilized as much as needed
Self-screening will still be encouraged
Schools may have additional guidelines
Our entire plan will be subject to change based on current status
RES East Back to School Plan
Classroom Environment
All students will be seated at desks or tables in classrooms. Tables may be used for centers with social distancing taking place.
Classrooms will be static as much as possible.
Departmentalized teachers move from class to class instead of students moving. This is for students in grades 4-6.
Seating charts will be kept for the classroom, specials, buses and cafeteria so that if a student would become ill we are able to contact trace.
Chromebooks will be sent home each night.
No sharing of school supplies. Classroom teachers will be given extra supplies so that students have the materials needed.
Communications
Virtual Open House for all grade levels 1 through 6. Kindergarten will still hold a Back to School night so that parents and students can meet the teachers.
Weekly newsletters from school and classroom teachers.
The REMIND system will be used to communicate via text, phone, and email with school families.
Stress healthy practices in communications home with students.
If a student or family member shares COVID diagnosis, staff will need to report to the nurse ASAP.
Schedule Changes
Added lunch times so that students can be socially distanced. Grade levels will eat either in the cafeteria or gym. Breakfast will be served in classrooms.
Change to recess schedules so that only one grade level at a time is using the playground.
Restroom and hand washing- wash hands before and after recess-lunch- arrival in the morning-throughout the day. Bathroom times are scheduled so that only one classroom is using them at a time.
Specials schedules are subject to change as needed.
School Environment
Breakfast will be served in classrooms after arrival.
Lunch swipes or I.D cards for lunch check in
Assigned seats in the cafeteria.
Cafeteria -no self serve. Ex. milk, condiments, silverware ( no salad bars for staff)
Visitors are discouraged from entering the building if at all possible- no visitors for lunches- appointments are needed.
If a student is being picked up during the school day park in the front lot. Call the office at (765) 938-1509 and student will be sent out to parking lot.
Isolation room in the clinic for those exhibiting COVID symptoms
Borrowed clothing items from the office will NOT be returned for washing and redistribution, they will be given to students to keep.
Social distancing is encouraged in the hallways.
Building Cleaning/Sanitation
Restrooms and water fountains will be cleaned throughout the school day.
For Arrival and Dismissal Pod Doors will be open so that students do not have to touch door handles
Classroom teachers will have wipes/cleaning supplies to use throughout the school day to wipe down flat surfaces.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

CAR RIDER DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES 2021-2022
RES Families,
Thank you for a great job with our new car rider procedures and being patient with us as we make necessary changes. After meeting with district personnel and the Rushville Police Department we are making a change for direction cars should come. For RES we ask that cars come from the south on Sexton and make a right into the RES back parking lot. Once you are in the parking lot you will continue to use the different lanes. When you exit the parking lot you will go North on Sexton toward Foster Heights. BRMS car riders will be coming South on Sexton and turn Right into the BRMS parking lot. When they exit they will continue South on Sexton. This will make it so that no cars have to turn left into oncoming traffic. Police officers will be on Sexton to help direct traffic.
Thank you,
RES Administration

DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES
Drop Off:
No Students are to be dropped off before 7:45. This is due to safety concerns for students and staff.
Cars will come NORTH on Sexton from 16th Street..
Turn RIGHT into the RES Parking Lot.
There will be 4 lanes for drop off and they will be marked. We ask all preschool and Kindergarten families to use lane 1, which is by the sidewalk. 1st-6th grade students can use either Lane 2, 3, or 4. Once you are in your lane proceed forward till stopped. A staff member will be at the end of the lanes to stop cars. Once all 3 lanes are stopped students may be let out on the passenger side. DO NOT LET STUDENTS EXIT CAR UNTIL DIRECTED BY STAFF. This will be done with handheld signs.
Once students are on the sidewalk the front 4 cars will be released by the staff member and then the next 4 cars will pull up to release students.
Once cars are released they will follow in a single file line to the back lane to exit the parking lot.
At Sexton Street all cars will turn right to exit. DO NOT TURN LEFT. Cars will then proceed to Foster Heights.
If you arrive after 8:10 am and there are no staff members present, do not drop your child off. Bring them to the front of the building and drop them off at the Main Entrance.
Pick Up
Car Rider Pick up will begin at 2:45 except on Wednesday when it begins at 2:05
Cars will come North from 16th Street and turn right into the RES parking lot.
Go into the assigned lanes: Lane 1 Pre-School, Lane 2, 3, and 4 for K-6 Students.
Have your assigned number, will be given out the first day of school, displayed in the front window from rear view mirror.
At the end of the lane you will be stopped by a staff member who will then call out students to enter cars.
Once front 4 cars are finished they will be released by a staff member to exit the parking lot. Go to the back lane and go to the exit. All cars will turn Right and go north on Sexton.
Two-Hour Delay Information

If school is delayed for 2 hours it means school would begin at 10:15. For example if your child is picked up by the bus at 7:15 am they would be picked up at 9:15 am.
This is another reason why we appreciate you updating phone numbers and emails in the Harmony system if they change. This is how all communication is sent.
Early Student Pick Up
Parents needing pick up a student at 2:15 or later can't pick up in front parking lot due to buses. On Wednesday this time will be 1:45. You will have to be in back car line or make prior arrangements. Please do not use the front lot after 2:15 or on Wednesday's 1:45.
Thank you
