Math Breakfast Friday
News This Week
Friday is the math breakfast. We'd love you to join us starting at 7:30. Everyone will be served breakfast and students enjoy showing off what we are learning. We hope to see you then!
Friday is also a 1/2 day dismissal. First bell will be at 11:40.
Our class is studying Day of the Dead this week.

Studies This Week
- Skills: Main Idea and Predict
- Phonics: Dipthong /th/ and /sh/ and vowel sound in ball
- Sight words: catch, good, no, put, want
- Practice at home: Read decodables.
- Accelerated Reader (AR) - Students should be bringing home a book ON THEIR LEVEL and reading it. They can take AR tests in the classroom. They should be able to read these books with little trouble. Reading with an adult is great and encouraged!
- We are reading information text about Day of the Dead and learning text features: captions, subheading, glossary, map, table of contents
Spelling
- Practice spelling and writing words. Visit spellingcity.com/meverette for more practice.
- Words this week: ship, fish, then, shut, with, rush, shell, shop, trash, thin, want, good
Math
- Unit 3 - Geometry - Numbers! We will continue with how to compose numbers, use addition, subtraction, and many word problems.
- Practice at home: Practice asking small addition and subtraction word problems that fit in your life and ask your child how they figured out the answer. They might count up, add on, use fingers, use drawings, or even use objects.

These words are used in English, math, or science we will learn throughout the week. Words are NOT tested, but will help understanding. Students are not expected to be able to spell these words.

Writing & Grammar
- Students should be using capitals and lower case letters correctly. This skill was taught in kindergarten. Keep encouraging using lower case letters at home.

- Finishing Pill Bugs versus Sow Bugs
- Pumpkins
Social Studies
- Day of the Dead - other cultures.
