Principal's Message
Welcome Back!
We hope your family enjoyed a wonderful spring break and were able to create lots of family memories.
We want to thank all of the families that attended our first Family Leadership Night. It was an amazing turn-out and we appreciated your patience with the crowded hallways and backed up schedule. Our students were so proud to show off their leadership skills and are looking forward to our Leadership Day on May 19th. As a staff, we have already begun conversation to help make next year's Family Leadership Night even better and less congested!
April marks the start of our state's testing window. Please see below the letter from our State Superintendent on the state test, MSTEP, and things families should know. A letter was sent home with your child regarding dates and times for your child's testing information. Please contact the office if you have questions. We appreciate your support with the state assessment by scheduling your child's appointments or days of absence outside their testing days. Thank You!
LATE START MONDAY-- Our next late start is Monday, April 17th. Please advise we begin school two hours later that morning to allow our staff to work on required state school improvement work.
In May we will begin our process to organize classrooms for the 2017-18 school year. We take many variables into account when creating our balanced classrooms. If there is specific information you would like us to take into account about your child, beyond what you and your child's teacher have discussed, you may complete a Student Learning Placement Form. Forms are available in the office. We ask that you do not request a specific teacher's name, rather you share with us the learning style that you feel best matches your child's needs.
Yours in Learning,
Amie McCaw

New Front Doors System!!!
NEW ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM
Dear Sunset Lake Families,
Vicksburg Community Schools continues to look for ways to ensure the security and welfare of our students and staff. As part of this practice, we will be implementing a new access control system at all of our school buildings.
Starting in the new year all exterior doors will be locked throughout the school day.
Exterior doors will be unlocked in the morning from 6:15 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. for the morning arrival of students. After 9:00 a.m. all doors will automatically lock and visitors will be required to “buzz in” to gain access to the building through a closed circuit monitoring system. The doors will reopen at 3:30 p.m until 9:00 p.m..
Procedures to enter the buildings at either of the above locations:
1. To the right of the door is an intercom/camera.
2. Press the button on the intercom.
3. Place yourself in front of the camera on the panel.
4. Someone will see you and will respond verbally.
5. They can then release the door for you to enter the building.
6. You will then report to the office.
We need your help and cooperation for our system to work effectively. Our office staff is handling multiple tasks and although they will work diligently to help you gain access into the building as quickly as possible, there may be a short delay until someone can view you on the monitor and allow access. Please help by identifying yourself and providing your child’s name. Again, all visitors must come to the office immediately after gaining access to the building to receive a visitor’s badge.
We ask for your patience as we all get acquainted with this new system and remember that we have your child’s best interest at heart.
As always, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Amie McCaw Sunset Lake Elementary Principal @TLIMPrincipal
