A Big Thank You to Dr. Charles Elliott
The faculty, staff and students of Austinville are grateful to Dr. Charles Elliott for his work as a member of the Alabama Board of Education. This week, Dr. Elliott completes his tenure as a board member representing the sixth district which includes Morgan County. Prior to Dr. Elliott's term on the state BOE, he spent twelve years serving Decatur's students as a member of the Decatur City Schools Board of Education. We are appreciative of his years of service to the children of Decatur as well as the state of Alabama.
Brian "Fox" Ellis Portrays John James Audubon
Fourth and fifth graders were amazed by the antics of storyteller and author, Brian "Fox" Ellis as he provided an entertaining hour about the famous orinthologist and his work. As a part of living history and as a promotion of Wheeler Wildlife Refuge's "Crane Festival" held last Saturday, Ellis was introduced by former Decatur City Schools teacher, Susan Estes. The students were encouraged to take advantage of this yearly event by the offer of extra credit in Science. The event is free to the public.

Honor Roll Party for Fourth and Fifth Graders
Thirty-six fourth and fifth graders were treated to a "Frozen" themed party for making the A and A-B Honor Rolls for the second nine weeks. The teachers felt these students were deserving of a little celebration. Students ate their way through blue cupcakes, snowballs and blue punch before a little dancing and musical fun.

Appreciating Our Own
Whether a member of our staff for a short time or many years, we appreciate each member for their job responsibilities, the positive smile on their faces, and the love each one possesses for our students and their families. In the following newsletters, we would like to spotlight some of our staff members so you may appreciate their work even more. Each deserves a pat on the back for the job they do at Austinville.
Mrs. Darlene Parker began working for the Decatur City Schools in 1995 at Austin High School. She became part of the Austinville family in 2000. She and her husband Gary have two grown children, Brandi and Josh. Mrs. Darlene prepares and delivers breakfast containers, enters the lunch counts into the computer system, collects money, and runs the register. It is amazing that Mrs. Darlene enters the amount of money collected from all 400 students and staff into each of their accounts! She says the past years with Austinville have given her many fond memories and she is looking forward to many more. Thank you, Mrs. Darlene for a job well done!
