Middle School G.A.T.E.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year! It's off to a busy one for my family, as we are expecting our baby boy at the beginning of February. While on maternity leave, students will be reporting to Mrs. Dunn each day and will be working on an independent study and book study with her guidance.

We recently began our first book of the Michael Vey series, Michael Vey: The Prisoner of Cell 25. This adventure series follows Michael, a boy diagnosed with Tourette's Syndrome, who also has secret electric powers. He believes he is unique until he discovers Taylor, a cheerleader, who also has the same mysterious powers. With the help of Michael’s friend, Ostin, the three of them set out to discover how Michael and Taylor ended up with their abilities. Their investigation soon brings them to the attention of a powerful group who wants to control the electric teens—and through them, the world.

Students have also started their independent study. They have chosen a topic and written their research questions. In the next several weeks, they will be finding a minimum of 7 resources on their topic, reading those resources and taking the information to write 100 facts on index cards, as well as, writing bibliography cards. Specific guidelines for the independent study were given to students at the beginning of the semester.
