Principal's Corner
Greetings Roadrunner Families,
December may hold only three weeks of school for us, but we are packing in a lot of learning and fun this month! We will have the 12 Days of Holiday Break Dress Up Days, December 7 - December 22. In planning the days, we were very intentional to choose dress up days that all students could participate in (should they choose) without families having to shop for items. We are looking forward to a festive 12 days leading up to our break which begins on December 23rd.
Other happenings for the month of December include our students completing the MAP assessments December 7 - 11, with make-up days being through the 22nd if needed. This is an opportunity for our students to show their growth in reading, language, and math since our last MAP assessment near the beginning of the school year. We are looking forward to students, parents, and staff seeing the progress made by our students. With the dedication our staff has for our students, combined with supportive families and students who work with grit and perseverance, we are anticipating strong results!
I want to close out this message by thanking so many of you for the notes of gratitude you have shared with our staff. Your words of encouragement and validation fill our buckets and contribute immensely to our schools' healthy culture and climate. We remain grateful to serve the students and families we have at Robert Frost/Challenge Center, and are so very grateful for our colleagues who help us to stay strong and determined while meeting our students' needs, even during a pandemic. It is clear in Roadrunner Land that not even COVID is able to deter the immense impact we can all make on our students' opportunities to grow academically, emotionally, and socially! Grateful to be a Roadrunner!
Best wishes, Mrs. Gillette

Roadrunner Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Deak, our new IEP facilitator, has been busy scheduling an incredible amount of IEP meetings that needed to take place at the start of this school year! She worked hard to make sure our team met the November 13th deadline. We are so grateful for her hard work and to have her on the Roadrunner team!
1) Where did you grow up?
Twin Cities native
2) What college did you attend?
BA at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, MN
3) What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy gardening (except when rabbits and deer eat everything), travel (only via armchair these days), virtual visits with family and friends in Minnesota, and hiking the beautiful South Dakota parks with my husband and son.
4) If you weren't in education, what career would you be doing right now?
Something that involves a lot of paperwork!
5) What is your favorite thing about being a Roadrunner?
The Native Peoples of the American Southwest believe Roadrunners to be very special, and symbolize traits such as: Adaptability, Appreciation, Flexibility, and Resilience. I have found this too describes what goes on every day with the students and staff at Robert Frost, and that is why I am proud to be a part of the Roadrunner team.

Library Cards
Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose books will motivate them to read more. Like most acquired skills, the more kids practice reading, the better they’ll get.
Siouxland Public Libraries would like to help you with getting good books into the hands of your children! Click here to get more information on how to get a library card for your child(ren) and/or families!
