SMES Shark Bite for Families
Chomping with the Sharks - October, 2021
SMES Parent University Series
As an aspect of our ongoing Title 1 program for St. Marys Elementary, I plan to include in this quarterly newsletter different "trainings" for our parents. The Parent Capacity trainings will provide information for parents concerning different parts of the instructional program that occurs here at St. Marys Elementary School. Check out the link titled "SMES Parent University Video" to view a short video concerning the MAP Growth Assessment and what the RIT (Rausch Instructional Unit) score means for your child.
Walk 4 Water
The Camden County Elementary Challenge program is spearheading a district wide shoe drive raising money to build a drinking well in South Sudan commemorating the Camden County School District. Help us raise funds by donating your gently worn used and new shoes! Collection boxes are available in the school cafeteria!
Shark of the Month Program
Each month, every homeroom teacher selects a Shark of the Month from their classroom. This student represents Leadership in their classroom, positive behavior and academics. The student receives a certificate, has their picture placed on a poster in the hallway with the other students and then gets to enjoy a popsicle treat. Parents are invited to come pick up a Shark of the Month yard sign to display in their yard for the month and then return it for the next student! I know I always enjoy seeing our students with their picture posted on Facebook by their families next to their yard sign! This is just one way we want to thank our students for the outstanding job they do here at SMES!
National School Lunch Week
October 11-15 is National School Lunch Week. Although students are only in session the 13th through the 15th, we invite your child to enjoy a great school lunch prepared by our cafeteria manager, Ms. Helen and her crew! They work hard each day to provide a school lunch that is nutritious and tasty!
Bus Driver Appreciation Week
During the week of October 18 through October 22, our school will be celebrating Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Bus drivers for our school system have an extremely difficult job of transporting our students to and from school safely. With upwards of 70 students, ages 4-12 at the elementary level all riding the bus together, the noise level, student movement on the bus and then of course other drivers create difficult situations. I am sure you will join me in saying a huge "Thank you" to our drivers for the great job they do each and every day for our students!
PTO Storybook Pumpkins
The week of October 18-22, students are invited to create a pumpkin representing their favorite story! This is always a highlight during the school year at SMES. Please have your pumpkin turned in to the PTO officers outside the school starting on Monday, October 18th. The pumpkins will be labeled and placed in the main hallway of the school. At the end of the week, students will be voting for their favorite pumpkin character! Please remember, a "fake" pumpkin is best but if using a real pumpkin, DO NOT carve!!!
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week is fast approaching! The week of October 25 through October 29, we will celebrate being "Drug Free" with our Red Ribbon Week activities. We will have different dress up days throughout the week along with a "Hat Day" as part of the PBIS program. Specific information concerning what dress up day happens on what day will be coming home soon.
Kiwanas Food Drive for Thanksgiving
SMES is partnering with the Kiwanis of St. Marys to collect food for the less fortunate in our community. We will have boxes for collection available to students to turn in outside the office downstairs. Food should be non-perishable in order to donate!
SMES did a great job of helping local families last year and we wish to continue this wonderful opportunity for our students to help others!
Papa Johns and Chick-Fil-A
They are back!!! Our school Papa Johns and Chick-Fil-A nights will once again be happening for our school. Once we get exact dates, information will be coming home!
